Spells of tender whispers ...translated into form (Silver otters)

You hung silver otters at my ear
The darling delving intimate intention
That you would search and find a gift so dear
Inspires in me soft gratitude too subtle here to mention
How can I begin to sing your praise
And half express the kindness I perceive
In all directions gentleness contains your gaze
And goodness, truth and honesty receive
Your offerings with temple silenced care
I am honoured and released in tender arms
You slip beneath all reason to be there
So subtle you administer your charms
And call it from me - Yes you do
How could I not reciprocate
A heart that knocks so sweet and true
A hand that that knows to celebrate
You rise with me to sweet integrity - we dream
You bring it and inspire it
Match the underlying theme
You know it
Just like I do
What it’s worth
To keep giving up the shadows
So love can daily birth
And even in a weary moment’s sigh
I see patience and sweet tolerance
And love washed in your eye
We lay, like otters, tangled, safe and warm
Entwined, with spells of tender whispers
                                         …translated into form

I am unsure what this means? This poem is about another's kindness (as in not my own) (?). However, I do understand the time constraints for most of us, so don't feel obliged to hurry back, your comments are usually so beautifully crafted, I apreciate them when you are able.~ Anni ~~~ "... sometimes I hear my voice - And it's been here .... Goodness gracious me!

What an elegant mix of Romantic (in the poetic sense) and post-modern form. Gorgeously wordcrafted and ... I love otters. Hey, I am not normally a fan of adorational poetry but you nailed it with skill, integrity and not a trace of cheap sentiment. Take a bow. Nothing here I can see to crit. Except maybe Translated in the last line doesn't need to be capped. cheers, Jess Forever unwrapping the eternal present.

Wonderful creatures otters, nice to meet a fellow admirer

Thanks Jesse, I think this is your first visit to my work, I'm very glad you found something you aprove of. I'm also glad you found no cheap sentiment. I had that last word capped just for uniformity since every other line was, but maybe I could get away with uncapping since I have shifted it to the right. Wonderful creatures otters, nice to meet a fellow admirer. Like your quote also Cheers~ Anni ~~~ "... sometimes I hear my voice - And it's been here .... Silent All These Years" ~Tori Amos.

actually I would go stronger than that

I think that Translated should definitely not be capped. It makes it look like a textual note like -Tranlated from the Latin. cheers, Jess Forever unwrapping the eternal present.

Fabulous clear insight & brilliantly succinct communication Jess

Oh YEAH!!! I see exactly what you mean (chuckle), I hadn't seen it like that & thank you so much for pointing it out. I Have been away & merely forgot to change it after reading your last which made sense anyway, but as soon as I read this I insantly changed it. Fabulous clear insight & brilliantly succinct communication Jess, Bravo!!! Thanks again, I am smiling now Cheers~ Anni ~~~ "... sometimes I hear my voice - And it's been here .... Hey lovely Gee, I have missed you - I went looking for you today to see if you had posted I got up to page 2 of my buddies & still no word from you... you must be a busy one lately. Yeah we had one of those bizarre synchronous moments, in the car with the kids, long distance, we were choosing what animal we'd be if we could be, my scientist said otter & I heard my son just groan, I turned to look at him shaking his head & grinning, we both burst out laughing, he knew how much I love otters, but no one else could have. So my birthday prezzy was silver otters, I love them so much. Thanks for your lovely words as always xx~ Anni ~~~ "... sometimes I hear my voice - And it's been here .... Hello sweet Beki, thank you, YOU have become so precious to me!

Hello sweet Beki, thank you, YOU have become so precious to me! I think you know it, & yes that's fine, it is precious to me also. My mind just wanted to go into hope against any unforseen catstrophe, but I walled it right there!... Instead I will tell you that I don't know that I have ever been loved quite so sweetly & truely & while it is fraught because of his more recent tragedy, that is no deterent, it forces us into courage, a place I love anyway. Most of all though, in response to your comment, I find myself (Oh dear there's that word!) wishing it for you. I do though, with courage & determination I wish it, not from a place of resignation or weaakness, but from knowing how good you are from here. It will come to you I guess when it is right in your life, it took me all these years, maybe it will come sooner for you I think My love to you anyway~ Anni ~~~ "... sometimes I hear my voice - And it's been here .... "Your offerings with temple silenced care"

OOOOOOOOO that line sent shivers of excitement down my spine I wonder why? "Whispers translated into form", oh how those whispers curl and ride on the air currents created by love and understanding and slowly, slowly form. Superlative. You weave and weave, weave on until we find ourselves at sea in the words you fill these pages with, like an ocean of love and feeling, of bold charm and delicate cadence, we are so happy to set sail on your ocean and see and feel the winds and music in those whispers of sentiment and grace. Today I thought of you Anni, as the great billows of cloud formed ships like those in grand symphonies, full of wild beauty and foreboding, as Thor took out his hammer and swung them together to make wild dark rumblings and flashes of fire in the innocent blue sky. You got me going again dear Anni my love to you Ann of Norway.

I so love the gift of the thundercloud tales, Cumulonimbis perhaps? yum, delicious, I am so glad you took me with you for that one. I am blessed you like my work & come to leave such fecund & inspiring words on my page. I would wish you all the best in the world, but in a way I know you have them, because dear woman, you are one of the lucky/clever ones who look for it & find it constantly. xxx~ Anni ~~~ "... sometimes I hear my voice - And it's been here .... Maybe yes!

I feel privileged indeed, no isms to bog me down, no conventions to follow to the letter, no need to impress or distress myself in drink or drug worlds, just as simple as a leaf on a tree wafting with the breezes, flapping with the storms, finally when its all over to fall with the whisperings of past poets in my ears into the beautiful journey to the void, oblivion. Lucky to feel so free. Not to forget that I have, and work on keeping my health, and there is the luck of the draw about which no one can do anything. Had my cancer, that was long ago, not daunted, still going strong and no sign, as yet of any bad deterioration, I cannot complain about anything, happy as a sandpiper. Bother me-that girl Ann- I will hear others say and fret at my good luck. Its also an attitude to life that matters I feel, the pesimist has his own explanations, I do not share his thoughts on life and let what is, be. Thank you Anni may luck, or fate as L will have it, be on your side too.

could always say it was in the incredibly brilliant brain cells,

Hiya Kelsey, always love finding you here. Well, they are earings! I asked someone to take a picture of them to post here, I love them so much, they were my birthday present from my "otter", my scientist, & yes, I was hugely appreciative, he is a dream. So, that sounds good, I am happy then if it sounds like that, it is so useful sometimes to get feedback like that, I realise I am not as aware of how my writing comes across as I suspected. It makes me all the more grateful for finding this site. Ah! so if you came to vist Australia, I could be your mama away from home then, though sometimes you might find yourself wondering who is the more grown up since I rather enjoy having lots of fun (My Otter's gorgeous daughter says I seem like I'm 12, but when I asked if that was bad she said NOooooo!!!!) We had the best weekend I taught her how to walk on my stilts & we played piano & made bickies (she insists they are called "cookies".. not is Aus baby!!!!) in the shape of musical symbols & instruments, her mama's recipe (it was her dad's birthday - I wrote the saddest poem, at the kitchen watching her dad work from her mama's recipes the night before, I'll post it I think, if I don't run out of steam tonight, it's getting late... It made me sook, & then the three of us all had a bit of a sook & laughed at ourselves for it, life huh!), I have pretty celtic colouring I think, my hair is dark red & very thick curly (& frizzy today cos it rained all day (we sooooo needed it here), & I have dark lashes, but my eyebrows are red, but I reckon we could get away with being related, we could always say it was in the incredibly brilliant brain cells that the resemblence most shows up!!!! Yep bickies, yum, "butter cookies" from Patty's recipes

Yep bickies, mmm they were really yummy, "butter cookies" Isobelle called them, from her mama's recipes, I got the kids to help make them for their papa's birthday. Righto, we'll be expecting you soon then Ms Kelsey... I think JayC & Boss are also here... Do I know Liam? I think all of those guys are in New South Wales... (I am in Victoria) God Isobelle would love it if we had a US visitor, I tease her, she said one day, "you don't like Americans" (cos we laugh at each other's accents), I said "Nobody likes Americans" then put on Randy Newman's "Political Science" (a commedy song taking the p...sss out of his own country as we all tend to do occassionally), not sure she has forgiven me yet, 'course the logic that I completely adore the 3 of them (Califormian babies) keeps her from taking me too seriously.... phew! How she'd love to gang up on me & "tomAYto" me to death (of course we DO say tomARto here), & bARth & vARse. Hey, we were blowing bubbles bare handed on Sunday, have a look at the pic, you might need to refresh, I'll find & post in a sec.~ xx Anni ~~~ "Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, it's what you are expected to give -- which is everything." -Anon

Thanks lovely O', No, we don't actually have otters wild here, but I've seen them captive (never enjoy that much in many ways) & various film clips, I love the hand holding one. They are incredibly playful & climb all over eachother, I'm a pretty demonstrative thing, no such thing as too close for me, I like to entwine, I was instantly enamoured when my scientist showed signs of being even more like that than I am. Ravens are pretty amazing, there have been some pretty amazing Raven songs all through history... probably poetry as well I suppose, though I know songs & not so much poetry. You are always an inspiration Steven, I am trying to catch up from a few days away, but have not gotten to reading new stuff yet, just responding to comments. Dear Anni,

This is a touching poem. It contains some of your by now usual wonderful turns of phrase. You slip beneath all reason to be there And call it from me - Yes you do A heart that knocks so true Sometimes I wonder what a poem you could fashion if a score of such phrases were mined from your work and linked hand to arm. On the other hand, the line, "I am raised to sweet integrity" mostly suggests that integrity was not there before, which I quite doubt is, was, might be the case. It sounds nice but carries this hammer of a meaning. Adieu, bjp

You are an archeologist, a sophisticated treasure hunter, though

You, of course, would pull out my most favourite line... & my most difficult... & to answer your rhetorical question (as is my want) if I were more able to do as you suggest, I might sound a little more like you. I admit to a chuckle as read that. Don't fret, I would always have my own voice, but a good aspiration is a valid thing, & I have, more than once, thought, on reading your work or comments, "I wish I had put so many powerfully moving lines together", recognising (as you may perhaps) a similar soul to their birthing & being, perhaps somehow our psyches have gone through a paralel labour, lost babes. Forgive me I have also read of your history in other comments here... So here, since it is my way, I will confess a thing I feel a tad squirmish about.. I did get unusually fretful about the integrity line, since I do strive to maintain at all possible levels you are right, I cannot claim that there are not times when I have fumbled with it or slipped altogether, but I am learning to be more gentle on myself as I would be for anyone else, I know my intentions, they are generally worthy I believe... My confession is uncomfortable because it implies a judgement... you see, I am so releived to be with a man who actually seems to share my own desire to live with integrity, because I feel in the past I have had to kind of kneel & stoop to pull it forth from other lovers, or sit low patiently trying to coax it out... I have many friends with lots of integrity though... So the sense of being raised up to that integrity, in this context, is even more laden with joy & celebration because I feel I am so used to a lower level of return & my tall otter just took my arms & raised me up to the sky the freedom we both have because we do individually, independently, without having discussed it, aspire to that same desire to take responsibility for our own being on this earth in whatever way that occurs... However, the thing is, having to explain that just shows up that it was not communicated. It IS subtle & admitedly I didn't want to say "well, finally I've met a man who actually stands up in the same realm of integrity that I am", I mean it sounds disgustingly self congratulatery & whiffs of ego etc.(please, I know there are many men who have wonderful integrity, just seems like the ones attracted to me are good at having it conditionally or selectively, or just pretending to until the facade wears off, or even wanting more, but not being bothered to be what it takes to live into integrity).. so I hid it a bit in self depreciating language I thought would slip by most people...(how rude of me... that shows integrity leakage right there) I knew what I meant (I write songs like that all the time, take it for granted that no-one else really listens to the lyrics anyway so I hide stuff in there). Once again you have unearthed a place I hadn't really faced needed a clean up, & there you are. You are an archeologist, a sophisticated treasure hunter, though you do not plunder what you find (ah use those powers for good not evil). I wanted to tell you, I know your goodness also & as you say, you may have cultivated a facade of less penetrable skin than some, but I feel when you reach out you give extraordinary insight, lucidity & clarity you have proverbial "sharp wit", a gift I think, not to be overlooked, & one I hugely admire. &, again, I thank you, deeply, I will think on that line I must go work now.~ Grateful (as is warented) Anni ~~~ "Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, it's what you are expected to give -- which is everything." -Anon

Oh, but I swear I saw you here, (I almost missed one of mine being in spotlight too), but surely Fea Dance was just recently... did I bump it out of Evolution then? I hope not, it was lovely & should have stayed longer so more folk could see it. You ceratinly should expect spotlight dear woman, why would you not?! Anyway, to be honest Spotlight is a funny thing, I sometimes think some of the best poems go unspotlit, & certainly some of my own that have been lit were in my opinion, less worthy of it than other poems that were around, or even less worthy than other poems I'd written. It is not necessarilly an indication of good skill or a lovely/good write, though often it can be. I still think it's great some wonderful poems & poets have come to my attention via its light. Couldn't have seen me there darlin I have never received more than 5 votes in the spotlight time limit so I couldnt have been in ... Unless it was a mistake LOL.... I write for myself(to centre myself in a mad world) though like Jess said (weirdelf)people say they dont care about spotlight but in actuality it is a nice thing to happen .... And no there are no expectations in my world for spotlight ... it is reserved for poets and as such I cannot call myself that , as yet , I have been writing seriously for two months to call myself a poet would be self centred and well pmsl would make me laugh .... I honesty say it time and time again but people must think I'm mad ... I'm a scribbler not a poet .... LOL Love and Light Jayne x

Honey I am SURE I saw you here with the faeries!!! Maybe it was Evolution? In any case I feel you could EASILY be in the spotlight, I agree with Jess... It's a bit like aplause, we think we don't need/want it (you understand this as a performer), but if it doesn't come at the apropriate time we'd be pretty distressed, we can't expect Spotlight, it is less prevalent than aplause (that's more akin to feedback I guess), Spotlight is like a standing ovation I guess, but I could easily see you in spotlight, it's a timing thing sometimes... How wonderful to have otters playing in your back yard!!, I love your little tales. I have had koalas, wallabies, even echidnas, kangaroos of course (naughty things would destroy my vegie garden), but that's because I've lived in the bush much of my life. My son went to the zoo in town recently, we have otters there, but not in the wild here sadly. The otters at my ear have a native American design, I love them so much. I think your heritage must be fascinating... & I think you fly for certain. I'm glad you try to be among others, & thank you for your acknowledgement, if I can inspire you to come out of yourself then I am very happy.
