The Afflicted
I've never worn dark sunglasses
at night, but now I see
that reality could be so stark
that one could fall and hurt a knee,
or even worse a concussion
from not ducking under a branch of a tree.
So during the day I find I'm envious
of the typical blind man's plight,
for he has heightened senses
to make up for his lost sight.
But he needs not darkened glasses
for the daytime or the night.
The irony is that he still sees
everything that's going on,
he can sense a truthful honest man
just as easily he can a "con";
and what's more, the latters desperateness
even tells him their approaching the dawn.
Nature has such a cunning way
of compensating for loss,
revenge, karma, or just plain fairness
she'll more than likely toss
towards the afflicted individual
quite possibly making him the "boss".
So feel not sorrow for the handicapped
or the challenged, as they're called too...
for good things happen along their way
and they're compensated in all they do;
for if one in five are considered afflicted,
it quite possibly may be you.
