Upon a Baby's Chest (expanded from chat)

Upon a Baby's Chest

Tears upon a baby's chest
Pain in a mother's throat
How is she to care for him
The child on whom she dotes

Cracked and blistered is the hand
Tremblin' with diaper and pin
To place upon the toddlin' child
How can you call life sin?

Tears upon a mother's face
Worry upon the brow
Alone and friendless, no family,
But she carries on somehow

Growing up together
Mother-child and son
She cries to see the trusting eyes
And finds her heart undone

Mother-love is precious
The hardships now endured
No rest for her teenaged feet
Till his comfort is assured

Can a back be turned to this?
Can eyes be tightly closed?
How can a person turn away,
Another look down their nose?

Rejoice at the choice she made,
The path that she has chosen,
For easily could her back be turned
And her heart be frozen.

Many thanks JayC

Very glad you liked it. I always think it is odd what certain things will set a writer off. Being a father and also the youngest child, I grew up seeing all my mother went through, plus my brothers, then my wife and I so it is a subject quite close to my heart. Thank you very much. Awww thanks Emarie

Beat me, hurt me, make me like it.. *G* Actually, thank you very much. It is an odd one to write after the picture that was shown, but it was what came to mind for some odd reason. Again, thank you. This is a powerful write. At first I thought that the rhyming detracted from the message, but of course after reading it several more times I find myself wrong once again. LOL I should know better by now, when I read you poetry! I've said this many many times myself: the love that can be seen between a child and his mother is reason enough not to take a life before it has a chance to be. *chuckle* Thank you Jim

I appreciate it sir. Rhyme is all in the way it is done, believe me, I have seen some mighty bad rhyme along with bad free verse and other writing in general. *LOL* Rhyme requires work that most are not willing to put out. I happen to agree with you on children. Respectfully, Rett: "God made an idiot for practice, then he made a school board."
