I Still Am Me

Once I was a little girl
My mind was filled with fret and fear

It seems so long ago
But really, it was only yesterday

The seasons passed
And I grew up

And left that little girl behind
I know that she still exists

I see her in my memories
I see her in the mirror

I wish that I could go back
And find that lonesome child

And bring her home, the one
I used to be that still is me

The little girl is there inside, and to see her as you do is good, it means that the purity of that little girl no matter how the world has been , she is still there, only remember that as a child we give unconditional love to most all we meet. As a grown woman it has been ness to guard that love and only let it out when you say so . It is a shame that we have to grow so but it is our way of learning things here. Some of the lessons seem far to hard, but you must reach in to feel that little one as you will. A lovely write and I feel a little sadness crept in there some place, Yours Ian.T

Thank you for your comments. this poem is odd in the respect that I do not remember writing it, but there is was in a book on my bedside table and in my handwriting. I must have woke up during the night, and just did not remember. I had dated it only 2008.Again, thank you Sincerely, Linda

Hi Linda...

Good to see you on the board... I've missed your presence... this poem is one that can touch many, we are all aware of the child within... the only suggestion I could make... is "yesteryear" it seems out of place, I think it would be a much stronger statement if it didn't rhyme... maybe the line could go something like... but really, it was only yesterday. only a suggestion, glad you are here my friend... Actually...

I did see something else... the last stanza... maybe if it were delivered like this it would be a bit stronger... And bring her home the one I used to be that still is me... or even.. that is still in me. hope you don't mind my suggestions... I can so relate to the poem, and I loved the comment you made to Ian about not even remembering the writing... classic, I've done that too. Richard

You know that I never mind you making suggestions, as you are always "right on" Thank you so much for your help. I have been working a lot lately, my house needed a new pair of shoes. (roof, heating/cooling unit/and bathroom plumbing. We're getting there) Sincerely, Linda
