A Knights Ride

A Knights Ride

Beneath the silver moon he rides

He feels his lover calling

The yearning in the whispered voice,

Upon the winds her urgent longing

He turns loose his stallions' stride

The distance ever dwindles

Within his heart and reflective thought

His blissfulness is kindled

Through war and battles he had survived

The dangers now laid to rest

To protect his lovely maiden

The Knight had done his very best

Though weary bruised and drained

One thought had given strength

The waiting arms of his true love;

He stretches out his stallions' length

Upon the rise to his promised land

He makes a sudden halt

All around her stony castle

Her holdings are under an assault

Fear grips this iron knight

His troops are following in his wake

But in his haste he took the lead,

Their time they were to take.

To leave her once again behind

Froze his heart with ice and fear

But he must go and find needed help

To save his lovely dear

Back to the ranks he twirled his steed

More urgent than before

For death and terror was a knocking

Upon his sweethearts door

Within hours he stands,

Before his hardened men

A plan takes shape inside the ranks

For the battle that would soon begin

Panicked prayers were lifted

To please be back in time

Dread seeped into his frozen heart

At what he and his men would find

Just as the rise was attained once more

Malicious cheers were chanted

For evil had breeched the castle walls

The harassing soldiers, in bloody clamor, ranted

Righteous anger filled him

They would dare to caress what was only his

He swore they’d feel his anger

From his swords own savage kiss

Pure rage spilled forth from his hardened heart

Down the slopes his army poured

One and all to route this foe

Pare from their chest their sorry core

With all the power of justice served

The enemy was slaughtered

The Knight and his courageous men

Ran through their ranks like water

Atop the stairs of her assaulted home

She met the eyes of her beloved

Into his arms she ran

And thanked the God above

His rage dissolved at the feel of her

Relief was etched upon his face

All the love you ever saw

Soon melted into place

Never again would he leave her side

This lovely one would be his wife

He pledged his heart forever

Without her, there was no meaning in his life

Truly epic, Tonya!

A tale comparable with any Arthurian saga! Your Hero/Knight is the epitome of stalwart courage and devotion to his Lady! Who says Chivalry is dead? Not here at Neopoet as long as you're writing!
