Flow

It's happened before
but not for a while now

a perfect feeling
a perfect awareness
the instant of aliveness
the eternal now occurring

former circumstances
forgotten
redundant apprehensons
of the future
unheeded

the axe blade striking
precisely
at the targeted longitude

the inertial momentum
exactly
proportioned and delivered

the moment
crystalline
the shutterspeed
of percepton
calibrated and precise

a moment of flow
energies streaming
from nowhere and everywhere

and then
I feel the pull of gravity
and I remember my limitations
which I had forgotten
for a brief period
of time

Perfect awareness

The haïku description with the many words of the western mind, you have set the mood and created an up to date moment we can take part in and enjoy. I think you take photographs too? I liked the feeling of the trappings of modern man hanging about you too adding to the collaged picture of the moment, like the gatherings of Autumn leaves hard pressed together, a surprise after the melting of the snow. Yours Ann of Norway I like a poem by the Norwegian poet Hans Borli.- "Et Tiende dels sekund" or a tenth of a second. A terribly long time ago I lay one Spring night by Grenn Long water, home at Fjellskogen (a mountain-wood) The night was clear and still, A moon shone over Bjonnstadseterhogda (Bear-place-summerfarm-heights) Lay like a pale scythe of silver in The dew wet April dark. Suddenly I heard Sighing gentle long beats over me I looked up -- then I saw for a tenth of a second The Northern star shining coldly Between the outflug feathers of The wings of a crane. Less then a tenth of a second But since then I have lived many years That take less place in my heart.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment

And also, thanks for including the Hans Boril poem. That kind of moment has happened to me also. One time walking in the woods and having a great horned owl fly by. Much appreciated..... I'm going to look up Hans Boril, I love the poem!!! Thanks

Edevold I found this poem

Edevold I found this poem really interesting, though I admit I don't think I fully understand what it is about. I don't believe that matters though, it left me with a strong sense of something, perhaps the thing you intended, perhaps not. I think it is important to have moved the reader & you did with your writing. I'm off to read another from you know Cheers Anni ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "...We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? ... Your playing small doesn't serve the world..."

What it's about

It's about being present in the moment...... Have you seen the movie, "the Peaceful Warrior" ?? It's about letting go of the "garbage" of the past and the apprehensions of the future, and focusing on the here and now... the present moment... I know that this poem is a bit vague... the moment that the axe strikes the woodchunk.. the energies that deliver the bit into the wood... sometimes when I am splitting wood I can hit the mark so exactly that it amazes my kids who have trouble hitting the chunk at all, but it comes with many many repetitions.. But it's not so much about splitting wood,, it's about attaining that mind/body awareness state where things seem to all mesh and all the mechanics and mental processes fuse and compliment.... time slows down ... in the flow...

The "flow state" is a well researched area, well done here!

Wow, I love that, I really love it & of course as soon as I read it after your reply I completely got what it was about, I want to apologise for not giving it the focus I should have (not being present to it) on the first read. You know actually I did get it the first time, just wasn't sure that was the point at the time, I should have spent more time with it before commenting. Haven't seen that film, but it sounds great & I will go & seek it. In my research I had to study what is known as "the flow state" you are writing about... If you're interested it was a guy called Chiksentmihali (I have no idea now how to spell that it's 18 years or so ago now)... He studied that state where the rest of the world disapears & your awareness is completely immersed in the moment & the task you are involved in, whether wood chopping, jigsaw puzzle, floor scrubbing, massaging, writing or painting. It is a lovely sate. One of my aims in life currently is to be far more present to whatever I am currently involved in, my brain wants to be so busy all the time & I am sure I miss things (we all do), thinking about the next place I need to be or what someone said earlier etc. Life works better when we are really focused where we actually are, after all, this very moment is all there really is, best spend it in the best way possible, no matter what we're doing. Well done with this Ed, & thanks for explaining. Cheers~ Anni ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Occasionally in life there are those moments of unutterable fulfilment which cannot be completely explained by those symbols called words.
