Tasting the Fire

His life is so fucked up.
Only his Grandmother understood him,
and she died...
like every relationship,
job and house he ever had.

Only the stage
makes it bearable.

The Army couldn't control it
three wives couldn't kill it
but the audience lets him consume it

Out there, within the music
he is one with the energy
bouncing from the walls
igniting irreversible explosions...

sizzling the stage...

and the crowd reacts
with chilling screams
for more...

Richard, loved this! When I

Richard, loved this! When I was a girl I fell in love (the teenage kind, from a distance) with a man who juggled fire in the city centre, told my mum I was going to marry him, she was horrified, of course I never even spoke to him or new his name! Perhaps this was his story..Wow, thanks for the memory jog moonman, love how reading can do that :) This is a great write Richard, much love b x

The pleasure was mine moonman x

I think you did tell me, yes, but feel free to tell me as often as you like, it's nice to read ;) Sometimes I feel like some poems here are so amazing I just have to 'tune in' as opposed to read! Quite often it's almost as if the poem reads me, if you know what I mean? Love reading you Richard x

Way to go Moonman!

You've captured what every frustrated performer dreams about in their heart of hearts! Just letting go of all the Bullshit and doing their thing! Kudos, my friend!

To be so misunderstoon!

Very frustrating. I am glad your fire lover found his niche! Like us, what would we do if people kept us from writing, painting, expressing our artistic side? Make for some very unhappy people! Loved the poem. I can see your performer, wound up, excited, reveling in his passion....and the crowd cheers. Very nicely done, Richard. Always Sincere, Tonya

Tonya...

Thanks for seeing... this was actually written about a friend of mine, an amazing bass player, he can really thump it out... but like the rest of us, his life is in turmoil quite a bit... but on the stage, that boy sizzles... and he gets quite the taste of the fire generated... I chose to leave it a bit vague... just something I do to allow readers to plant their own images... did it work? Richard

oooooooooh,

i believe it worked very well. (heehee, i actually thought of a pyromanic)..but, could be any number of *misunderstood souls. Perhaps we can even slip ourselves into that spot at times. On top of the world when we are doing what we love best! (regardless of what others might think) and bless you friends heart, least he finds himself when he is playing. *misspelled it above in last comment, what i dork i is!) Tonya

Mr. Moonman,

what a wonderful poem. this one caught my attention because of the title (really great, by the way!). this one reminds me of your Porch Sax poem, which is now a sort of classic here, if you ask me. :-) way to go, Richard! anyway, you and music... always a great combination, you make it caress my eardrums from a distance through your poetry. your Proprietress

you have done a great job with this, fabulous expression my frie

Hello Rrrrrichardo, I hadn't realised you were a music man... you have done a great job with this, fabulous expression my friend, I really understand the sentiment... sometimes I think being a performer can be dangerous... I often reflect that I don't care so much for the applause, but you know you might think that but it would be pretty awful if there WAS none, it keeps me humble to remember that. People give you feedback because they want to acknowlede you, It shouldn't be the whole motivation by any means, but it should be acknowledged as the gift it is, no matter how much one wants to avoid an addiction to it... God I go on. I love this work Moonus manus, the lines about what could or couldn't contain or eat "it" up, were really clever xx~ Anni ~~~ "Love has no desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving". ~Kahlil Gibran

Anni...

Thank you for your generous comment... and for your deepened look into the "fire"... for a performer it is indeed part of the goal, to illuminate the audience... I have never performed on the stage, been around it quite a bit, and always wanted to... but... oh well... there are things we want and never get... the taste of fire is one of mine... Raquel Welch would be another... lol.... just kidding Honey... (just in case she sees) lol.... thanks Richard

TASTING THE FIRE

Hey Richard! This is your first work that I've read and I am enthralled. It's raw alright but real and hard hitting! Never thought poetry could be that up to the minute 21st Century accurate! Splendid! Thanks BOnitaj
