Sunburns and Babies

Melting hot, searing sun
rose again to shine on the day
Hundreds gather on FDR's lawn
to stretch, socialize, and hurriedly get ready
Bottles of water distributed
Announcer says "go!"

We make our way up Route 9
curious and supportive drivers
honk, wave, and smile
Their hearts warmed by our cause:
the hope that one day all babies will be healthy

Wandering through historic Hyde Park
happy doggies sniff strangers
Embarrassed owners apologize profusely
Upcoming creek and waterfall
serves as their playground
as owners wish they could do that too

Sizzling sun burns everywhere
not covered by proudly worn
purple shirts
Six miles fly by
As friendships grow
and hope is born

Sitting upder shade trees
with our barbecued meat
heavenly ziti, and bright red skin
we reflect on the day
and concluded it as perfect.

Thanks guys!

We did have a blast! Some of the local vendors had set up snack bars and stuff for when we passed through town - couple people nabbed up chewy bars. They made good business that day! Couple people stopped off at the Dunkin Donuts for iced coffees, too. :~) ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "I wound her up, an' I shifted down, an' I offered this prayer to my Lord: Said, God, get me back home to Houston alive, an' I won't drive a truck anymore..." - Steve Earle
