Birthday Present March 1997
All the little stones
In the woods
Are jewels packed in
Snow pressed grasses, tightly,
So as to keep their shapes
For your birthday.
Leaves are also wrapped round branches
On the red stemmed cornus plants
Packing flowers that will bloom
For your next year and make it a year
You enjoy.
The stones are all precious
The stones are all presents
The stones have memories
The stones have different colours
The stones are what we like
The stones are packed specially for you,
I ordered them so
In Autumn as the grasses changed colour
And position.
Each one has a story to tell
About its life
And about how many times it has seen
Or felt you pass by.
They are your friends
They are always there for you
They love you.
That is what life is about
Nothing else is important
Just the stones
I give you for your birthday
With my love
In the song they sing as they exist.
