Never's Bend

Never's Bend

In a State I won't mention,
By train tracks I'll not name,
is a town in the business of
selling both sin and shame.

If you've never been to Never's Bend
You've never lived in sin.
If you have money, you've got a friend
Any place in Never's Bend.

The city, it was purpose built,
Corruption holds the reins.
Men are known to disappear
And women for other things.

To the West Side of the tracks
a bluff overlooks the river below,
where people are known to drown,
just accidents; they'll tell you so.

On the East Side are the Nightclubs,
places of illicit pleasure
anyone or thing can be had,
now or at your leisure.

Many girls have come to town,
young and old to see the sights,
and if they are caught alone,
they disappear into the night.

Even men are never safe,
brutalized, they're often found.
Someday God will vent his wrath,
and burn this evil down!

If you've never been to Never's Bend,
You've never lived in sin.
If you have money, you've got a friend
Any place in Never's Bend.

Stupid??????

Yeesh Rett this is anything BUT stupid, made up or not!!!!!! Suspenseful and dark, that's what it is! You have such a great way of telling a story in a poem, that's something I've always had issues with. But this is awesome! You create a tone of suspense and mysterious darkness...and I love that "Never's Bend", sooooo befitting to your plot. I also really like the repeat of the second verse to the last verse, emphasizes how we've never lived in sin unless we've lived in Never's Bend. Another amazing one from you! Thanks katie

I appreciate it. That particular phrase bounced around in my head for weeks before I finally gave in and put a poem around it. *L* Glad you liked it. Awesome Rett! this reminds

Awesome Rett! this reminds me of an old country folk song. this would work great to a tune, a nightmarish lullaby. you remind me of Johnny Cash, singing poems of what's true and what we wish wasn't. "If you’ve never been to Never’s Bend, You’ve never lived in sin" is my favorite line. You describe all our worst fears. that we'll be taken in the night, that there's no good left in our city. Where will we raise our children? I've been to a few places that seem devoid of life, of goodness, of hope. you never forget the feeling.

Thank you Sha

I fell in to a burning Never's Bend..... *LOL*I liked Johnny Cash. I had that phrase bugging me for weeks before I had a poem to wrap around it. The cities are getting more corrupt all the time. There are some places in Richmond, VA that were like that. Even though your plot was "made up" these places unfortunately do exist - exactly as you described them. I, too, thought it would make for a good song. Nice writing. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"You can be a dreamer, you can be your dreams come true. Soddom and Gomorah,

Still exist, it was just moved to the other side of the track. These two cities exist in the heart of man, and lately they've been brought more to life all over the world. There isn't one city that does not have one. This just shows where man is heading in there abuse of each other. How sad!! I like this, and I agree that it reads like a country song. thanks, Eddie Life is like a railroad track that leads to many junctures, if you stand on the track Love comes speeding along and runs you over!! Thank you very much Eddie

I was wondering if anyone would catch the similarities. I didn't catch them myself til after I was through with the poem and doing some editing and polishing on it. Yep, cities all over the world have their areas like this. I appreciate it my friend. I guess I write a lot like songs without even realizing it. I appreciate it. It seems that my mind is working once again. A little WD40 loosened it right up!
