The "Skirmishes"

The sweat feels oily on my palms
as I ready for the battle.
The way I see it,
a battle equals a myriad of "skirmishes".
That's why I take things very slow...

because you have to, in order to win a battle.
It's kind of like a circle that's made up
of a plethora of little "arcs", to complete the whole.
One cannot dismiss the importance of the parts.

Then, it stands to reason that
so many a battle would equal one war...
making the tiniest mistake, very deadly.

As I try not to slosh through the water
that is seeping into this maze-like cavern,

I "gear up" for my opponents.

But, I begin to feel weary
because of the exhausting terrain,
and the mind alternating confusion
that accompanies this maze.
For, I cannot say for sure

whether, I've traveled this way before, or not.
As soon as I get my "bearings",
I'll be locked and loaded...
if only they would fire first, and betray their co-ordinants.

I need to call upon my father,
one of the most patient men that ever walked this earth...
and emulate his ways.

But, I am also reconnaissance.
And I must not delay the deploy of my attack.

Now, I am focused, and prepared to scout.

My mind drifts off...and I think of home.
But, I do not get melancholy, or sentimental!
Why home even entered my mind
was to give me incentive, and motivation
to be the best recon soldier that I can be.

My radio doesn't seem to work
in the caverns that are to be my battlefield.
But, in my mind...I realize that this is a good thing.
For, now my load is lighter,

and I cannot betray my  position with a squelch.
In the distance, I hear gunfire.
I adjust my grip because of the sweat, and persevere.

I am heavily armed, ready, and very much alert...
and there is no way in hell that I will be ambushed.

But here's my dilemma.....I've plenty of ammo.....but, now I'm out of quarters.
