With all respect for your poetic skill,

I find this offensive. Substitute a race or ethnicity for "ginger" and see how it reads. And, yes, I am ginger.

If I have offended you, I apologise, it is not in my nature to be offensive. This was written after a conversation with my wife (who is herself ginger)where I likened her to a vampire, as she has to avoid the sun due to her pale complexion, she has read this and found it amusing, as did my mother in law, who is also a redhead. I think you are being ironic

I think you are being ironic perhaps? The poem from the rhythm point of view was just right I think. I love redheads and have had red headed boyfriends too, long ago! I enjoyed "Anne of Green Gables" even longer ago, and wished I had been born with auburn hair. But I agree with Arrow about the way you used the word, for instance in the first line it does seem abusive, even if you didn't intend it to be so. Oh well I aid something. Me too, when i was young

Me too, when i was young teen, one of my favourite novels was the *Angélique* series by Sergeanne Golon; totally ruined my life for want of green eyes; the red hair I lusted for was boredom for my white-blond hair turning darker every year... red hair and green eyes. sigh. Loved your poem, as usual John. you always open my memories of fantasy. ;-) Your poem also reminds me of a Twilight Zone favourite: The Eye of the Beholder.
