Empty Nest
Empty Nest
My nest is emptied from its brood
Motherhoods become slightly skewed
My children, both, have flown away
Into the world, into the fray
Now a lay me down to sleep
Depression reigns and starts to seep
Into my bones that rocked and cradled
The sweet offspring I used to cuddle
My hope is that we taught them well
Gave them the tools so they may dwell
Amongst the others of this world
Allow their uniqueness to unfurl
With your soft and downy heads
Each night, I’d tuck you into bed
Laugh at the silly jokes you’d make
Smiles and comfort in dreams to take
Strong they are, these boys of mine
What I need is only time
Never shall I be alone
For here will always be their home.
