Empty Nest

Empty Nest

My nest is emptied from its brood

Motherhoods become slightly skewed

My children, both, have flown away

Into the world, into the fray

Now a lay me down to sleep

Depression reigns and starts to seep

Into my bones that rocked and cradled

The sweet offspring I used to cuddle

My hope is that we taught them well

Gave them the tools so they may dwell

Amongst the others of this world

Allow their uniqueness to unfurl

With your soft and downy heads

Each night, I’d tuck you into bed

Laugh at the silly jokes you’d make

Smiles and comfort in dreams to take

Strong they are, these boys of mine

What I need is only time

Never shall I be alone

For here will always be their home.

Oh don’t they know it

Oh don't they know it these mothers with their children grown up, I have had no children but can with ease understand the wrench of this happening in life's journey, then it all depends on whether one has to face it on one's own or has an understanding support in a partner. A new life begins which can be as exciting and challenging as the last part, just take up yor hat and walk out into it and suddenly you will find new energies, new wisdom and be able to make your children join in with their joy. Oh harken to me the woman with no children!!!!! I am no sage in this aera so I should probably keep quiet. I liked your poem Tonya. Yours respectfully Ann of Norway

no,

I believe you are right Ann. There is a new life after kids have gone their own way. Least, I hope so! I want them to be strong and able to take care of themselves. So many have such struggles now days, is scary. Is just finding that new flow, i think. Thank you so much for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed the poem. Always Sincere, Tonya

Wow, I thought did i post my poem? I wrote a poem called Empty Nest rescently because my son has gone to college and I can really relate to your poem. I'll have to post mine so you can read it (I'll rename mine) any suggestions. Love the way you phrased everthing, it all had a flow I enjoyed reading it alot. Time does help alot! Now I'm finally o.k. being by myself but it took time to feel this way. Yours Cathy

sorry, i took your title! I dont know why you have to rename yours....was your idea too. lol. My youngest is off at college also. His brother is now in the Army as a specialist (training for Military Police), after serving 4 years in the Marines. So, except for about a week, when the youngest started college and the oldest got out of the Marines, one or the other of the boys have always been home. Is tough...i didn't think it would have as much as an impact as it is having! I am so glad you enjoyed the poem and is nice you understand too. Thank you for reading and your comments. Always Sincere, Tonya Please send me a message if you post yours. would love to read it.
