Spontaneous Combustion

To spiritual ups and downs

Fires of hell
Come to consume my heart.

Burning me away,
Leaving only ashes
of what I once was.

Only a remnant.....

This diminshed, faded light,
Once a beacon in the darkness,
A small flame
that flickers, wavering,
Before the cold winds
blow it out.

Compelling change
To create this fragmented identity,
Revealing my inability
To hold my course.

Always wanting
To change the position
of the north star,
Trying to force the hand of destiny,
Forging my own future.

But finding only my helplessness
In the face of my failure to do so.....

While I stare
into the mirrored eyes
of Defeat.

Very powerful, Misty!

Great imagery here, and excellent word usage! You've really captured what it means to be discouraged and down! Hope this isn't drawn from personal feelings, but I do like it very much!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Misty!!!!

Another awesome piece from Misty! Girl, I always look forward to your poems...*claps when she sees Misty's poem in the stream* LOL I love how you started the poem, "the spiritual ups and downs"..that itself is powerful, and an entrancing beginning. There's pain and darkness in this, obviously, and I felt it in every word...the hurt, the defeat, the hopelessness...so been there, I know you have too. All around, another GREAT write by Misty! Keep rockin'! Peace and Love Katie

This I like

Well written and hoping it is not a self portrait in any way, it is always best to go with the current and let what comes be tackled when it comes, not go against the natural order of life. Probably put clumsily, but tant pis! Yours Ann of Norway
