Phoenix Ashes
You who art so lost and unforgiving
You hold onto love
like it was a dark secret
when it should be freely given
You bury love under mountains of dirt
like it was rancid treasure bones
when it should be phoenix ashes
scattered over ocean
into air
alleviating every why
permeating everywhere
You cage love disasterously
like it was a gaoled paradise bird
colours not to be seen
song never to be heard
but be assured
it will fly
it will soar
You closet love yet covet praise
you collect it, for shelving
you dam love up
with boulders of insignificance
which mount up
and subdue the magnificence
When it should be
a river freely flowing
meandering slowly
sometimes wildly eroding
the heartland.
