Through a Fluid Looking Glass

Upon the shores of Kazaktell
Below the currents ebb and swell
Are tunnels carved into the tide,
If one might trouble to confide.

There beneath the halcyon waves
A city thrives in flood walled caves
And columns cast from liquid dies
Support the effervescent skies.

The reflection of moon and sun
Caress the day with affection
And light the walks and balconies
With bright and stunning guarantees

Of pledges shaped and finely honed,
Of joy and hope stately enthroned,
Of passion strewn with careless glee
And banquets of fidelity.

And when no light from liquid sky
Percolates through to mystify
Phosphorus lamps illuminate
So no darkness can permeate.

It's true there lovers walk in ease
Free from doubts and uncertainties,
Free from Worry's ill-favoured blight,
Secure in wonder and delight.

Secure in grace and tenderness
That no anguish can dispossess
Nor grief nor umbrage strip away
Nor devastate that perfect day.

And in the parks of evergreens,
Arranged like crystal figurines,
Promises forged of frozen dew
Redeem the suitor's vows anew.

So that the future's brightly built,
Free from sorrow and free from guilt
Filled with longing that will aspire
To bloom into buoyant desire.

All this within that tranquil loch
That fate dare neither scorn nor mock;
There is no bittersweet farewell
Upon the shores of Kazaktell.

I like your underwater city - seems almost like a fairytale. the realist in me screams that nothing is that perfect, but I shut it up. my fav line: Support the effervescent skies - it's a pretty thought thinking about all those bubbles. It seems very soothing. Another: And when no light from liquid sky Percolates through to mystify - Always pictured percolating things as going up, but what do I know.. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do. 'Til you gaze in that mirror with an eye that's true. And admit that what scares you is the me in you..." - Steve Earle

Thanks for the comments, they are appreciated. Our inner realists agree, which is why I created Flatearth so I could indulge my inner surrealist. Life is annoying but Flatearth is always there in the back of my mind, niggling to get out. --Jonathan Annoying the world, one person at a time (Group discounts available)

through a glass deeply

What a great journey, big stumble for me in the third stanza though There sun and moonlights reflections Sport the hues of a thousand suns And light the walks and balconies With bright and stunning guarantees Seems awkward the first two lines and repeats, looses the rhyme of course, thought I might make an offering. Where sun and moonlight cast upon Reflect lights hues as in a song And light the walks and balconies With bright and sunny guarantees Craig

I took to heart your words and critique and neglected to let you know that I was thinking of what you said and of your suggestions. Although I love the sentiment behind the beginning of the 3rd stanza, ultimately you are correct, it is just too unwieldy a read. I've made a modification that I believe adds to the tone of the piece while preserving the rhythm I'd tried to set. Thanks again for your time and suggestion. --Jonathan Annoying the world, one person at a time (Group discounts available)
