goddog

it is no mistake, that dogs have wagging tails.
their sloppy tongues, kiss faces,
and help to curb our ails.

i cannot really take, a day without a dog.
they simply are just aces,
they burn away my fog.

i know and greet most all,
in my neighborhood.
i ask them how they are. they wag,"fine i'm doing good!"

they say they smell my breakfast,
they ask " how are you too?"
i scratch their ears and say " i'm fine, and thanking you."

the gods knew what they were doing,
when they did the deed,
they knew that dogs were going, to fill a lot of need.

my guess is that the wolf,
turning to the human hand,
came with us and spread out, o'er all the land.

they came to us looking...for the easy food.
hunting for the easy life!
yes,.....and bringing all their brood.

we cared for them, we bred them, look at all the breeds!
they fill our jobs,
and they are,... our favorites. oh, yes, they are indeed.

'anubis may be a jackel, but he's still canine.
god-dog, he judges hearts,
i think that he likes mine.

for i've never met the dog, i really didn't love.
they sense it too i'm sure,
the gods who reign above.

Yayyyyyyy for dogs!!!!

This one says everything about why we love dogs, Geez! Awesome! My dog, Spunky is 8 years old, I call him my old man. He has seen me through many a dark hours when I'd be sitting in the basement listening to screaming and crashing dishes upstairs. He's always by my side when I'm sitting alone, watching hockey, or writing...as a matter of fact he is sleeping beside the computer chair right now! I'm not terribly sure what you mean by goddog, though it is kinda catchy. I do love your speculation how our favorite pets came to be. All around, a decent poem, I love it mostly because as a proud dog owner, I can relate to it. Peace and Love Katie PS Spunky says hi with that adorable wag of his tail! OOOOOOO he's soooo cute....

They are the best of friends

They hang on your every word and join in whatever's on the go, in the house, in the mountains, on our walks everywhere. I agree with you geezer they are terrific, only a few who are trained to be ferocious can frighten me, even when I was three I just sat and waited for them to come close, they know who loves them straight away. I always wanted a dog, someone impartial to talk to as I was so quiet and shy when little, but we never got one. I knew them when I came to Norway. They look as if they understand even if they don't, that's a good philosophy they have! In England I had a Siamese cat it was like a child, the only one I ever had, and it could speak its different meanings communicating with me, helped my prune the roses in the garden, moved with such elegance and grace that I could watch him, Pingtoo, for hours, that intelligence I admired and enjoyed, where dogs are just like little boys. If only the dogs could read Geezer! Yours Ann of Norway

goddog

goddog reads the same frontwards or backwards. it is also a colloquialisim,meaning....wow! rather than goddamn! it also has god-dog connotations. 'anubis'. thank you, katie and ann. it means a lot to me, to have people feel the way i do about dogs. i think that they are the most special animal on the planet. and yes dogs are just like little boys. curious, friendly, wanting nothing more than to enjoy the moment. too bad i'm only human! happiness is a matter of perspective. gee

I touched....

...on this when I wrote, "The Creation of Dog and Cat". This speaks volumes as to our needing companionship, more than the dog needing us...although, for some reason my cats think they're dogs. Something to be said there, Aye? Enjoyed this one, docmaverick.

i touched

my last dog was so eager to please, he tried to be whatever he thought i wanted. i so enjoyed his company for thirteen yrs. at first he thought that he should be a cat, because we had a cat that had kittens, and everyone made such a fuss over the kittens,[he was just a puppy himself.] then he decided that he should be human. [i never tried to dissuade him from that notion] i let him think that for the rest of his life. a different kind of human, yes, but a part of my family, yea even as one of my children. as soon as i can persuade my comp. to let me, i will retrieve from my folder the poem that i wrote about him. it's called "rugby". that was his name. so glad you enjoyed! beauty is a matter of perception. gee

long smiles

thanx so much anc! dogs are so very awesome! i'm glad to make you smile. the first line is just an observation. i have yet to meet the dog who will bite you after wagging his or her tail at you! they are not like humans, who will say one thing to your face and then stab you in the back [or bite you in the rear] if you gain their trust, they are life long friends! i am going to go back and read your poems,so as to get to know you better. i will be sure to leave a comment or two to let you know that i have been there. beauty is a matter of perception. gee
