Duped

I awoke this morning
feeling invincible
and ready to take on the world.

I thought I had been endowed
with superhuman powers
and went off to try 'em out.

I took the sands from the furthest desert
the carbon from the deepest mine
I pushed and mushed as hard as I could
but no diamond popped out
just grain sized imprints on my hands
and a feeling of frustration

I wanted better waves to surf on
so I tried to fly to the moon
in an attempt to pull it closer
But no magic saying
and no amount of flapping
suddenly made me airborne
I just looked retarded

I tried to gaze through my birthday package
to see what was wrapped inside
but all I got was a headache
and severely crossed eyes

I didn't accomplish extraordinary feats
with super powers I was never anointed
now I'm just cranky and bitter
and feeling rather disappointed

Awwww! I'm not sure about magic.... I push on the keys, and they spit out words - nothing more, nothing less. Glad you enjoyed. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do. 'Til you gaze in that mirror with an eye that's true. Jess, you are woman, Roar

Don't meow! Ah the things we wish we could do and the things we can't. Never try to watch your tongue as it is hard to do and makes you look silly, but always remember, you are the giver of life so rejoice. We may not accomplish all we want, but be happy with what you can. I loved this write my friend and besides, at least you didn't try to walk up the side of a building! *G* Respectfully, Rett: "A Democracy can withstand anything but Democrats." Robert A. Purrrrrrr!

Thanks, Rett! So what you're saying is that the only way to beat my ridiculousness was to try to watch my tongue while flapping away? LOL!!! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do. 'Til you gaze in that mirror with an eye that's true. Thanks Gee.

The first two stanzas kind of explain why I named the poem 'Duped'. It was because I felt great and almost superhuman waking up, and thought that because I was feeling this way, that I must have been given cool powers - and upon not having them after all, I would think that one would feel duped. Hope this helps! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do. 'Til you gaze in that mirror with an eye that's true. Yeah… must be a Sunday

Yeah... must be a Sunday morning thing.... I thought I could beat the odds... but as usual, as luck would have it, I'm still me. Thanks for giving voice to that, Jess. This is good. I used to feel invincable, but that was when I was a kid. Back then I was Wonder Woman, and I used to look for fairies in my Great Aunts sewing box. needless to say I was disappointed. Also found out Vanilla extract does not taste as good as it smells. Sincerely, Linda

Sorry for not finding any fairies, and learning the taste of vanilla the hard way. Had to laugh, though, because I've fallen into that trap, too. Not only with the vanilla, but with a dish I cooked, too! Smelled great, tasted like crap. Oh well. Thanks for the visit! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do. 'Til you gaze in that mirror with an eye that's true. Dwarf

Wow, duped by what you wanted to do, I liked this one full of energy and hope. I also wanted to be wonder woman and use my rope of truth. Now I am older and found out she was created for purposes that men wanted to look at her topside. LOL. Now this poem turned out so good that you already accomplished what you said you did not do, its a diamond, with a moon, and I dub you wonder dwarf who makes poetry from nothing!

Wonder Dwarf.... LOL

I think if I were a real dwarf, my first magical feat would be to make myself taller! I'm humbled by your comment. I'm just now starting to catch up, wow you have been busy This is the Jess I know and love the only suggestion I might make on this is perhaps keep the rhyme that you ended with by saying "no diamond was there to find" just a suggestion though Mom
