Sleeping Beauty

The earth lies ready for the kiss of spring,
eager to feel warm breath upon her cheeks,
praise winter’s death and end to icy sting,
longing to quell flood’s swelling arctic creeks.
She will adorn her hair with wild flowers
and crown her cool head with silver and gold,
give thanks for the pure and gentle showers,
that the grip of winter has lost its hold.
Lovely earth shall breathe the scent of lilacs,
bless birds on purple wing and bugs that bite,
love the dandelions in sidewalk cracks,
welcome summer sun, though it shines so bright.
Sleeping beauty, restless in dream-like sleep,
believes spring’s sweet kiss, the promise will keep

Nothing like spring...

And I'm just the kinda girl to walk around with wildflowers in my hair! LOL. Crazy hippie child am I. Perhaps why I love this poem, beautifully stunning and amazing imagery. Makes me restless for the butterflies and wildflowers of spring, all the colors and sights. Love it love it. Peace and Love Katie

Hello Katie

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Better late than never, I hope. I appreciate your kind comments. I think spring is here. It's having a hard time making up its mind. Been stuck in at least 3 snow storms since I wrote that. Thanks again, Deelilah

Dee

I really enjoyed this upbeat poem that whispers SPRING Yes, I am ready, I enjoyed the part about the dandelion in the crack, we shall not complain of that..... so much better than snow. And for those who would say move to a warmer climate, I say I don't like big spiders and snakes. Awesome, patty

Hi Patty,

Long time no see--my fault. I always love to hear from you. Maybe there really are dandelions in a few cracks by now. It's 105 degrees today in LA, but we were snowed in in Nebraska 2 days ago. Hope you had a good Easter. We actually got to go to a church like yours with my son in Seattle on Easter. It was inspirational. Always, Dee
