Cold Grey Day

I drive through the country lanes
the long and winding roads
stretch out before me
mile after mile

Hedgerows nakedOf summer greens
so barren they standFrozen in time.

The trees waiting
the seasons thaw
for color to return
to them once more

High up in
branches bare
the nests that
shelter young
life there.

The sun starts to set
sky with mixed huesgolden blinding this
great ball of fire

The river flows gently
silently murmuring it
turns to liquid gold
reflecting the
Sunset.

Across the fieldsa wind farm seen
their stems stand
so tall and white
three arms out stretched
propellers hardly move
in the gentle breeze

Sun slowly sinks behind
the darkening cloudsWaiting for them to let
go of the thunder burst
torrential tears fall
cold grey sad day
drizzle starts
skies merge colors
ln all shades of grey

I agree I cannot put the verses always as I want

them this Windows/PC world I suppose we are in now has its own mind and changes spacing and all sorts, on my Mac I can steer the words where I want them. Bother them, as you say it makes a difference to how one reads a poem. You have seen the hedges, do you still have them near you? My mother ran out, not young then, after a man who was LEVELLING all the hedges in her view, wonderful view over the meadows of Devonshire, the hedges had so many birds nests in them and she is fond of both. They left here a rhythmical tower-like pattern to please her...ha, ha! I am so sad when those most beautiful works of art the old laid hedges disappear, are there any farmers with this art who can still make them? I shall study the poem next time as I haven't time now, 'scuse I. I love the subject as you can see. Yours Ann of Norway

Cold Grey Day

Ann It was when I was driving up to Yorkshire to visit my sister in hospital. I love the hedgerows I call them my patchwork quilt of the English country side. They look great from the air too the way the land rises and falls with the sun gently creeping up over them waking them up as the shadows pass over them and they come alive rich with the yellows and greens pink and browns etc. Just awesome. I have a wild garden with a variety of trees and shrubs lots of berrys. I have a robins nest near the house and when I sit in the back garden writing etc I put my hand out with seed and they come and sing and dance around me eat out of my hand. Also there are a lot of hills when I drive down a certain hill and look up across the fields there is one field blood red with poppies and another field with yellow rapeseed. amasing colours. Or I just walk my woods and loose myself.no people no traffic just all the elements not the fire at this time. This poem was about my drive seing the hedgerows going on for miles and miles looking so sad just frozen and seeing the wind farms standing so tall barely moving but the propellers so large close up just amazing. Thank you as you I can talk for ever about nature I feel so apart of all creation. Electric Blue

"Oh to be in England"

"Now that April's here" not that it is exactly yet but your mentioning the hedges made my heart flutter like a sparrows, among the tight little branches. as I sang a lovesong...cheep-cheep- to the Spring and to the hedge. I too LOVE to see from a plane and would have learnt to fly had I ever had the opportunity to do so, ( a little tractor-plane that could turn upside down and fly slowly near the ground) and seeing the actual curve of the earth makes one feel that those lucky enough to go into space, can get the feel of the form of this little green/bluuuuueeeee globe and love its nature. I once saw the whole 'map' of Denmark in the early morning sun from the air, each individual house was given its shadow, the frosted landscape had made it sharp in contrasts, we have a slide of it too, I have more than 11000 slides in this one roomed flat of ours...luckily we are mad, or insane as Longo says..so we nevr have the time to be bored. Where were we, oh yes hedges, I would love to have some photographs of them, those very few that are left, they are the Ikebana of the British farmers!!! Good morning lover of hedges from Ann of Norway
