My blood is in this land (my body will be soon)

My blood is in this land (my body will be soon)

I have given it my blood (freely).

I have breathed the land in (the sweet, the sour)

I exhale this land wherever I may go.

You are my brother, my sister

when we feel our chests rise in the morning.

My skin is like your skin (my touch is like your touch)

My skin is wrinkled, my skin is smooth.

Our skin is new, our skin is old (there is rebirth).

I am your youth (for a while),

I am your past years of agony.

I am your smile (my muscles move the way yours muscles moved).

I am those you grieve for.

I have absorbed their energy (it can never be destroyed),

They are part of my soul.

Your heart beats between

the beats of my heart (one step behind).

The rhythm is continues.

If one stops (for they do stop)

It will suffer for the lose.

You are the tide (I see your reflection in the water),

I seek to rise to meet you.

We are the land,

We are buried in this land.

You are the soil

that makes the land (that makes the breath of life).

I will walk (we will walk together),

I will walk on my brothers and sisters

of this land.

I really like this. I am old skin(that's me). This one really hit me.This country, young/old, these people young/old and in between, the brother/sister/friends/neighbors, we are all part of this land. Well done. E E Cummings channeling or not, I loved it. 5/5 Respectfully, Rett: "A Democracy can withstand anything but Democrats." Robert A. Heinlein For the sake of children, read this. http://www.neopoet.com/node/19905

thank you Rett, I appreciate

thank you Rett, I appreciate your comments and I'll take them to heart! I wrote about something really close to my heart, my core beliefs. We tend to let so much separate us, race, politics. It's an us vs. them society. but we don't realize we're all so alike; our bodies, our sensibilities. they defy race and age. thanks so much, sha

very creative and nice to read..

This poem (for me) has a lot going on in it. I really enjoy the feeling of pride and patriotism i get from this poem, that we are all connected, unified, bonded in some way. Nothing wrong with EE cummings. I look at this poem and honestly, feel rather influenced by it. thanks for the great poetry and inspiration! Bryan Toes. I have them.

thanks Bryan. i know it's a lot to take in for one poem, maybe it's a little too much. but i did want to convey pride, in myself, in my fellow humans, in the people who walked this earth before me. I hope to keep inspiring you, if i can! -sha

people have so much and get so lost yet

not talking about SUV's or GPS's nothing wrong with them im not living in a hut although i did live tough for awhile enough to know I love some-things enough to know that if i lived in a hut i would love my coffee pot my few village guests (maybe tea perhaps) we will become dust no matter how great the tomb or insignificant the few who scatter us back to the land the waves will come sweeping death on its horse misfortune and all the rest many will peacefully tend their years its not my book to write for all not even my own that for me is perhaps just starting but this poem is a truth thank you

thanks orgami, for your thoughts. Material things are good, but things of the earth are more a part of the substance of man and woman. We are more alike when stripped of our vanity. I'm glad you mentioned truth. it is one of my favorite things. -sha
