Trampled on

Most suicides occur here in the West,
where technology and commerce reign supreme.

Depression, like cancer, is a modern growth:
always there, but never quite like now,
when basic needs are covered, more or less,
and life's a quest for extras.

Television shows us health and wealth;
perfect bodies; gorgeous homes;fast cars -
unnattainable for most, but longed-for.

So we scuttle through brief lives
and fret to grab our morsel of such dreams.

We're ants, society's an elephant -
we're trampled on.

Robert,

not exactly a piece to be enjoyed, but a truly honest write! In fact I had a conversation with a friend only yesterday about how we are whining despite our high living standards, so I wholeheartedly support your message here! Yours, ~Nina

Thanks for your support

Hi Nina, and thanks for giving me your support on this one. People in poorer parts of the world are just too busy trying to stay alive to worry about some of the relatively minor woes which can depress us here in the West. Best wishes, Robert.
