Manifesto for Unity

Manifesto for Unity Does anyone else findSt. Patrick's Day as racistas our worst depictionsof Steamboat Willy? I read a fascinating articleabout the Chatham Islands800 Kilometers southof New Zealand. What happened to the Moriori thererival the worst European genocide. Still, I want to visit that place,to see the quiet fields, the restored pasturesthat once cried with blood. I don't see the point of division. My friend Misty said she understoodwhy I didn't get along with a coworker;"his sister was a liberal..."did that make my anger any more justifiable? What do you see when you look at me?A white conservative Christianwho opposes abortion;does this make me your mortal foe? Like you I am made of skin and blood, bone and sinew, what happens to my remains when I'm goneis of little concern to me. Joe once told methat I said nothing new.He was always lookingfor the freshest idea, completely oblivious to the factthat nothing new is ever said. Truth be told,he's a human being, too. So read me some honest words, something concrete, black and white.Tomorrow you and I will be in the same predicament, flesh and bone.Perhaps ideas are intangible,
mere electrons firing in the mush of our brains. But Christian or Atheist or Hindu or Muslim or Buddhistwe hold these things sacred, living simple, peaceable lives. And we all know of men who don't. They are those who shout, and killin several blasphemed names. If I was made in God's image, then trust me when I sayHe has no stomach for that sort of thing.

This poem is what its title

This poem is what its title claims it to be-a manifesto and a well-articulated one. I can't say the poem has any problems in the areas you've requested feedback on but it fails to move me. To me, it reads more like a lecture broken into stanzas and doesn't provide the emotional spark to rise up for change or re-evaluate my position. However, it succeeds as an example of: some honest words,/something concrete, black and white. Are you familiar with Holly Near's "I'm Not Afraid"? You might enjoy that. You can find it on You Tube. I'd give you the link but I don't know how.
