WHY WE CRY
WHY WE CRY Something happened to Mkpo anam Ududu Amongst the tall trees of Akai woodland The bush frightens him deep to the marrow Something happened, that is why he cries All night long, he cries, doo-doo doo-doo Amongst the city dwellers of Isale Eko There is fear of going out once it is night Crime escalates and the policemen harass Something happened, that is why they cry Night fear wears toga and parades the streets Amongst the politicians living with us They walk on roads with molten black gold While those who voted them in walk the squalor Something happened, that is why we cry In decrepit huts, we live in quandary Along the creeks and swamps of Niger delta You see masked men with automatic rifles They kidnap and kill unsuspecting victims Something happened, that is why they cry Spillage obliterate crops and aquatic life Ransom is the fallout of greed for the crude Militants make case for resource control Men stay indoors at night because of fear Abject poverty sets in because no one cares Something happened, that is why we cry
