LAMENTATIONS
she slowly climbed the stairs
Feeling like she had the weight
Of the world on her frail shoulders
Impatiently, she brushed back a stray
lock of hair from her weary face
Been a long time since she had the
Luxury of going to the beauty shop
Gray's really starting to show now
Her mind flooded with unhappy thoughts
And questions with no answers
You know, my roof is startin' to leak
Don't know how I'm gonna get that fixed
I got me two grown boys. Strong and good lookiing
Always tellin' me what good money they make
They know that roof needs fixin'
They just look the other way, I guess
Seems like they have plenty of money
When they want a new car. . . Oh, well, no
Since troublin' those waters
They're good boys
Got families of their own to tend to
Don't have much time to worry about me, no how
I got two girls, too. They got troubles
Never enough money to meet their needs
Nobody to help them but me
They come to me for help with the light bill
And groceries, and such
I cain't tell them no. They would have to do
Without. That wouldn't be right
Sometimes I think life is easier for a man
I love my kids. Don't know if I did them any favors
birthin' them. Life is hard
Had me a husband, but he's living high somewheres up
In Tennessee. Found him a woman with money
Don't care if his girls do without
Don't even know his grandkids names or birthdays
Sadly, she climbs into bed for another night of worry and questions
Wishing she had the answers
