Through Psyche's Eyes #9 - Final Destinations
How beautiful the sight is from this high cliff,
And how lonely my life has been
Isolated and cursed by beauty,
And the tongues of men
That have given praise
Much too high for a mortal like myself.
Their words aroused her jealousy and anger
Condemning me to this horrid solitary moment,
Where my only companion has left me desolate,
And all other options have brought me
To doorstep of death's threshold.
But wait.......
What is this voice
Floating on the air currents?
Disembodied voice without a face
Reminding me to have faith
For I have not been totally forsaken by all.
Instructions carefully given
To preserve my life and complete the task.
Down, down, down,
Into the depths of hades
Past the snarling Cerberus,
And across the river Styx,
Partaking of nothing
from the feast of the dead realm,
The queen Persephone
granting Venus' request.
Onward with my obtained treasure,
To appease the goddess of "love",
And be reunited with my beloved.
Again - curiosity rises like an apparition,
Like a smoke without flames,
Teasing me with temptation
To steal a bit of this beauty for myself.
Venus - you are not alone in your vanity...
And how lonely my life has been
Isolated and cursed by beauty,
And the tongues of men
That have given praise
Much too high for a mortal like myself.
Their words aroused her jealousy and anger
Condemning me to this horrid solitary moment,
Where my only companion has left me desolate,
And all other options have brought me
To doorstep of death's threshold.
But wait.......
What is this voice
Floating on the air currents?
Disembodied voice without a face
Reminding me to have faith
For I have not been totally forsaken by all.
Instructions carefully given
To preserve my life and complete the task.
Down, down, down,
Into the depths of hades
Past the snarling Cerberus,
And across the river Styx,
Partaking of nothing
from the feast of the dead realm,
The queen Persephone
granting Venus' request.
Onward with my obtained treasure,
To appease the goddess of "love",
And be reunited with my beloved.
Again - curiosity rises like an apparition,
Like a smoke without flames,
Teasing me with temptation
To steal a bit of this beauty for myself.
Venus - you are not alone in your vanity...
