Insomnia

touched again
by stifle of sleeplessness
I read and write
lay down and try to sleep
then do it all again
in a cycle as endless
as sweet sleep is elusive
until the dark of starlit sky
becomes the amber softness
of another rainy dawn
and the long cold walk
that I take with my dog
sooths my soul enough
to give me peace
and let me finally rest

Hello Jim

I have a little ritual. When I wake, which is exactly in the middle of the sleep shift, I take 2 tylenol (must be tylenol, store brand OK, not ibuprophen, and never asprin) and 2 calcium tablets, which is supposed to be taken alone and not with food as the calcium binds with just about everything (I hope not tylenol) and its benefits are lost--so middle of the night works. Then I play 3 or 4 games of freecell on a hand-held model (an absolute must have item in the life of a trucker). Does this work? Usually not, but I will have taken my calcium. If you haven't already check out my series "When Sleep Won't Come". A walk with the dog would be nice, but I'm not so sure in your weather. As always, I enjoyed your write. Dee

LOL I no longer even try to go back to sleep. I clean house, do remodeling projects (basement right now) walk the dog, write poetry, and cook! Occasionally I'll get sleepy, but not too often Glad you enjoyed it Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race
