Ice in the Western Sky / Fire in the Eastern Sky
Ice in the Western Sky / Fire in the Eastern Sky 1. The Western Sky About a third of the way upin the pale skysits a gibbous moon, angled so the man thereinlay on his sideas if sleeping. The moon sleeps this morningin an icy western sky, told tall tales by his father, the sun,and mother, the earth. 2. The Eastern Sky While his children sleepthe sun rises earlysetting fire to the eastern sky. That he wakes the worldis a given;that the moon can sleep, even stillis a puzzle. All the way home I am blind, shield visor's downto blot out the eastern sky;when I turn north, there is relief. 3. The forgotten Sky To the north there is Polaris, but only at night. In the south, aurora borealis;yet these too are called"the northern lights."So what then liesin the southern sky,the forgotten sky?Tomorrow I should learn this.
