Ice in the Western Sky / Fire in the Eastern Sky

Ice in the Western Sky / Fire in the Eastern Sky 1. The Western Sky About a third of the way upin the pale skysits a gibbous moon, angled so the man thereinlay on his sideas if sleeping. The moon sleeps this morningin an icy western sky, told tall tales by his father, the sun,and mother, the earth. 2. The Eastern Sky While his children sleepthe sun rises earlysetting fire to the eastern sky. That he wakes the worldis a given;that the moon can sleep, even stillis a puzzle. All the way home I am blind, shield visor's downto blot out the eastern sky;when I turn north, there is relief. 3. The forgotten Sky To the north there is Polaris, but only at night. In the south, aurora borealis;yet these too are called"the northern lights."So what then liesin the southern sky,the forgotten sky?Tomorrow I should learn this.

Beautiful Write

Love this one, Mark. Sky gazing were you? There are many wonders where the moon and the sun hold the sky side by side. And the fact you incorporated the southern sky...who ever talks about the southern sky, right? Clever. I think your title fits well the poem, as the two sides of the sky are like opposites of fire and ice. Struck my curiousity, hence why I read it. I like how you put 1.The Western Sky, 2. The Eastern Sky, and such. Clarifies which sky you are in fact talking about, making it easier to read and understand. great write, Mark! I love it. Peace and Love Katie

thanks for your kind words, Katie

the sky(s) were so beautiful that morning when I was taking Joshua to school. As we drove west the moon was clearly visible, and pale icy blue against the blue sky. It was strange because it was tilted, as if the man in the moon had gone to sleep. After dropping my son off I headed east, back home. The fire in the eastern sky was overwhelming. I was struck by how beautiful, yet individual, both sides of the sky were. God's canvass :) Mark W. skys

you forgot the 'southern cross' my friend. i'm sure that the 'skys' of cloudthings' will forgive you though, as did i, for such a beautiful write. at first thought that title was a bit unwieldly 'till i read it. gee.

Mark

I have to agree with Katie, this is an extraordinary write! The two are almost a ying and yang for each other. Seems the southern sky doesn't get as much attention as it should, huh... ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do. Thanks Jess!

Yin and Yang was EXACTLY what I had in mind when I saw the sky that way. :) Mark W. "our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers." 1 Timothy 4:10

Ditto on all the above

Downright awesome my friend.Dangit, they took all my words. I ask you, is that fair? You think they would have left just a blasted few for me, but Nooooooo. sheesh. I guess I will just have to say, good one Mark. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." "A Democracy can withstand anything but Democrats." Robert A. Heinlein
