Dark Reds of Night

The lady slips into ice cold velvet,
wanders alone through the dark reds of night,
following a new curve in the pathway
with no choice but to see it to the end.

It is dark beyond reason, murky ink,
a maize of the mind
unable to fathom.

Winter leaves flutter beneath her bare feet,
crushed;
used, they lie bleeding to death on the ground
as she wanders through the dark reds of night.

A candle flickers.

The long dark is done;
and she lies down to rest in cold velvet,
awaiting light blue morning and new warm.

She dreams of her wedding day when she will wear
white satin.

A candle flickers.

And the bright morning star offers a hand
to escort her to the banquet.

Your writing is beautiful, and since I wrote on one of your pieces when you first came to this site, I notice that you have gathered some of our lovely poets to be there with you. I am sorry that I haven't had time to read more of your pieces, did read the first of the trilogy and that is lovely. You keep on with your poetry and will look forward to read some of your book, which you could give us a taster on ??? Take care on that highway of life out there, Yours Ian.T

Thank you Ian

I do love it when you stop by. I enjoy seeing the smile on your face. As to the book, 'Lady over the Road', It has now become a smaller part of the larger memoir, short story, and poetry collection called 'Keep the Faith, Baby'. I will try to select a small segment to post some day. 'Highway of Life' There's a title for a chapter or poem if I've ever heard one. Take care, Ian. Deelilah

Dark Reds of Night

Dee This is so beautiful I could see each frame of this scene one by one you led me on this beautiful journey. A slender figure in smooth white satin lured away by an unknown force but driven to be taken to the final resting place. I feel the lady is searching and wanders driven to follow the curves of the pathway ahead in darkness. She is breathless reaching out with her mind racing through the dark maze dark haze. She does not feel the pain beneath as her life blood seeps from her feet leaving the trail. So exhausted she lays down and sinks into the ice cold velvet embrace which now comforts her. There she lay in her white satin smooth and fine until a blue light of morning appears soothing her warming her then gently offers and invisible guiding hand leading her along the winding curves of the pathways unknown to her banquet. I just love the use of colors and elements one of my favourite themes Electric Blue

Hi Maggie

I'm glad you like this, Maggie. This does seem like something someone sailing on the river Styx would like. I, too, love to use colors for mood, effect, at times symbolically. This is the sort of thing I dream up in the middle of the night. You mention streaming in some of your recent comments on your own work. I stream too, at night or other times when I have no pen handy, but can barely remember more than a key phrase. This time the phrase 'dark reds of night' took form and I was able to put it together. Thanks for the read and the comment. Yours, Dee
