Chigger Creek

Chigger Creek

The redbugs are happy
Down on Chigger Creek
Laughing and playing
While dancing cheek to cheek

They are busy celebrating
Chasing down their prey
Some innocent young swimmers
With no repellant to spray

Oh, soon they'll be itching
Doing a wild little dance
While redbugs are laughing
And crawling up their pants

About 30 miles from here is a little creek named "Chigger Creek" and that was the basis of this poem.

Rett,

Having been born in the city, I knew nothing of chiggers...till I came to Kentucky. Horrible little creatures! This had me laughing out loud! Sincerely Debbie

Thanks Debra

I hate you had to find out about them, but glad you got a laugh out of it. Yep, they're nasty little critters and when I was a kid I used to get them all the dang time playing in the fields and walking through the woods and they would find their way to the dangedest places to settle down for a meal. chiggers are nasty little mites that can itch like crazy. Here is a link telling more about them so you know what to look out for if you ever go out midwest to southern lands. *LOL* They are fun little critters. *LOL* Glad you got a kick out of the poem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvest_mite Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." I know the feeling Richard

I love wild blackberries and Dewberries also. Not a lot around here, but where they are so are those little critters. *LOL* Yeah, I started itching as I was writing the poem! My wife wanted to stop at that little creek once and I told her with a name like that, no way was I going down to it. It might actually be so many chiggers it just looks like a creek. *LOL* Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." "A Democracy can withstand anything but Democrats." Gees what are red bugs

I haven't met a red bug yet, unless they are those tiny red spiders one sees? Lovely tickly prickly poem which makes one want to jump up to see if anything is crawling under the chair! The sight of bugs "dancing cheek to cheek" is so comic that it makes me laugh, and that's not bugs by Walt Disney but the real thing. Talking of tangos in my last comment to Longo, how about them doing a tango! I think the "no repellent TO (could be left out for the rhythm) spray", Possibly "little" in the last verse too, not sure just -en passant- Yours respectfully Ann of Norway

Thanks Ann

I will give it some spray, err, thought. *L* I'll see what I can do. Actually cheek to cheek was a tongue in cheek reference(buttocks) of some of the places they like to go. *LOL* Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." Chiggers creek

Rett I do know not of Chggers Creek but know of other places similar. Oh yes those little critters just love me too. Being of fair skin I seem to attrack all sorts of critters even two legged ones too? No matter being covered from head to toe tight sleeves and trousers tucked in my heavy boots large hat etc. repellent no use as i feel they are ammune and they just love to eat me alive. The little slickers get in under your clothes and take a bite oh yeh. But why do they choose my face and nose. oh boy try to hide for a while but the little critters had such a party they laughed out aloud. Just love this and oh yes try not to itch. Ha! great poem. Little moments like this never ever forgotten. Once bitten twice shy! ha! Electric blue I do love these places because everyone who has sense stays away. Ha!

*LOL* those little critters are sneaky

They will cling to your clothes and then as you are taking them off get on you. They can find their way through the tiniest chink in your armor. I didn't know whether they had them overseas or not, but I guess they do. They get in the most absurd places on your body also. The worst is between the legs on a male or female... I just wanted to make something funny to go with the name of Chigger Creek which is a real place near here. Unfortunately I know absolutely too much about chiggers and tics.*LOL* Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." "A Democracy can withstand anything but Democrats."
