Blackened Reliquaries.
Crowned with fire tree tops disappear
to explode swifter than dread
horror rolls across the canopy
raining flames engulf the rest,
indecent ghastly.
dead bodies burnt cars
gathered in lonely places,
back road memorials where
they met in smoke and panic.
This is no epitaph for
cremation containers of
lives reduced to cupfuls.
Shiny pools of metal bled out on the ground
alloys from Ford Toyota or Holden
returned now, dust to dust,
reflecting silence and the ash around.
No leaves or branches stirring
nor will there be,
beside these blackened reliquaries.
