The Joy Ride

Just what is true happiness?
Could it be as simple as being content with where you are?

I believe there are are many varying degrees of pure happiness,
for me...it came when I was allowed to see an infant's first breath
and then was followed up with the fact that there would be at least, several more.

I've certainly been happy when preparing for something, say a sort of quest.
I was also have been content at my place at "point A",

and thought I might even be more pleased at point B"...
but, it was not so. I'd venture to say I was sorrier.
So much for the process of thinking.

But I'll tell you what makes that so real to my heart,
it's that I now truly understand.

The beginning stages of preparation brought a smile,
and even laughter at the journey's summit.
But, it was in the actual journey itself, where there lied the greatest joy.

It can never be about the destination for you may be in for a "letdown".
In the same regard, your companion's actions may disappoint you.

But, the thrill of the unknown...that anticipation...
is the one and only thing in the equation that's unpredictably magical !
And, I might add...the only thing in the whole scenario that's not too "pedestrian", ironically enough.

One simply must not rely on people, places, or things to make them happy
for, it will not work for long, and disappointment will ultimately rule the day.

No, you may choose to lead, huddle in the "pack", or maybe just follow...
but you should always savor the magic that is of the journey.
For it's the "ride" that counts.....I'd even race ya, to prove that point.

i love your theme, am always

i love your theme, am always trying to remind myself that life is a journey and not a destination!! Top job! would be tempted to swap the 'be' and the 'even' round in 4th stanza, 'be even more pleased' but maybe that's just me?! Take care b x

Hi Doc

Complex bit of writing there, lots of ups and downs but I held in there and said that it was good. I was thrown a little by the line, :- itself, where there (lied) the greatest joy -: Who told that fib, (lay) would fill this spot with more Joy. You take care out there, and have a beautiful Spring, Yours Ian.T

Thank-you, both....

...for the favorable reviews. It may HAVE been a bit of an overly-ambitious "write", for me.....but when the heart whispers such a truth as this, ya just gotta give a listen, ya know? Sincerely, #{:>{)}@===== docmaverick.
