No Greater Sorrow

I've had people shun me, daily,
and others have asked, "How it is, that I might be?"
But, I truly believed the question hurled, to be a redundant;

and an unanswerable type of question.
But, every one deserves an answer to their question,
even an answer that might let them "off the hook", as it were.

You know what I mean, like sayin', "G'mornin'" to someone as you pass,
as a cordial kind of greeting; but  instead, it turns into a question
that you really don't have a need, or obligement to answer.

Well I've found, that that's not that way it is at all.
For even being asked out of politeness,
is proof through the roof, of concern...showing through to true compassion;

and so, I've been troubled with my answers, most all of my life.
Saying, "Fine..."; when I wasn't,
"Never mind..."; when I was feelin' just a bit cranky;

or, not answering, at all when I was mad !
I've even, in a good mood said, "No complaints ! "Cause nobody wants to hear 'em, anyway !"...
....Just to make a stupid joke !

However, the other day I realized something down to my bootstraps.
My reply should, at the very least,
show an  equal amount of compassion that straddles the question.

And on this day, someone rode that question up on me
that I don't know for sure, if he had a greater trouble than I owned, or not.
But I answered, "I have no greater sorrow, than you do, my friend."

For I, had been answered with that very same reply, the previous day;
and I could barely stifle my alarm at the time. For  when I turned to see who had spoken,
and I knew, fairly well that he meant no harm..........I could see, he was blindman.
