What Will the Preachers Do When Satan’s Soul Is Saved

What Will the Preachers Do When Satan’s Soul Is Saved

Will they find a prostitute or drink at the nearest bar
Can they find an enemy or start another war
Sit there at the pearly gates, hang their head and cry
Do they live forever or lay right down and die
Will they don a pair of wings and walk on streets of gold
Or walk upon a frozen earth shivering from the cold
What will the preachers do when souls no longer fry

They can’t preach fire and brimstone from the pulpit then
Perhaps they’ll see a striptease show and live a life of sin
Can they look upon someone and say that they are saved
Or brag about the good they’ve done and temptations braved
Will they turn their backs when men and women dance
Or toss caution aside just to take a chance
What will the preachers do when Satan’s soul is saved

This is not anti-religious as I believe firmly in God, but that doesn't mean I cannot speculate on things or even disagree with some things. I just got to thinking about this. You gotta admit, it makes you wonder. *LOL*

Yeah, I am wondering how it will be taken. I am one of those odd people that believes in God, but not churches and I tend to wonder about the oddest things at times. I appreciate it. I grew up in the church for almost 13 years since my Daddy was a part time preacher. I really got dis-enchanted with the back-biting and greed within. Later after my divorce from my first wife I was sitting in church when the preacher started talking about the Catholics. I stopped him very vocally and asked why we came to church. he said to worship God and i asked him why he thought his way was better than anybody else and walked out. Last time in church. I was 25, now 57. Still read the bible, still pray. I am glad you liked it. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." I actually wanted to see what kind of reaction I would get from people over this and being an old man, *G*, I figured, I've wondered so maybe others have also. I'm sure not all churches are bad and not all preachers are after money, but I have never encountered one though, so my skepticism. Your soul isn't saved by a preacher or being dipped in water. Glad you talk to God, so do I. Sometimes I pray, other times I just tell him what I think is wrong, what's right and whether I have been good or bad. I guess you could say, keep him up to date. *S* Glad you liked it my friend. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." Happy Valentine's Day

Old man, indeed, although 27 years is a long time to not step into a church, for a preacher's son. I know there's a few good churches in Texas--but they're not the hell and damnation type. And the question: what will the hell and damnation preacher do is a relevant question. Right now I'm hoping the guardian angel is on duty, because Steve (hubby) is taking a hazmat load with some noxious chemicals to Laredo Texas. (Me, I'm hanging out in Spokane.) Where are you in relation to that border stuff? Yours, Deelilah P.S. Satan will never submit to salvation.

and belated happy Valentines day to you also. My church is my belief and my home along with my faith and trust. My location is 50 miles south of Houston, Texas and about a six to eight hour drive to the Mexican border. I wish you hubby well down there and will pray for him. Pretty bad stuff going on around the border down there. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

Thanks for reading and the questions. I can't speak for anyone else. I am just posing the question what will they do. God love all of us, each and every one. I am talking about preachers. The ones who make judgements on Gods behalf whether real or not. I grew up in a faith that doesn't believe men and women should dance together, that people should not drink at all (and stupidly, that the wine was only grape juice). Prostitutes were Satan's work, etc... Preachers have absolutely nothing to do with my relationship with God as I consider it just fine. Just because I question some of the puritanical views of the churches does not mean I am a bad person or that I don't believe. It is just things I ponder upon. BTW, I do not speak freely of difference in good and evil, but I have known and do know a lot of the "men of God" that do speak very freely of it. Smashing idea

What a smashing idea, Rett, oooooooo it makes one dance a macabre dance in ones imagination, dramatic and wild, evil and desperate, fiery and damned, black and roaring red. This I wrote before I read more than the first line. now to read the poem.... Your questions:- Title 'top' as the N's say, we might have said 'topping' in my youth! Language good. Rhythm fine, not exotic. You can see how the theme appealed to me. Ends with a question always inspirational. This gives food for thought indeed, this theme and will possibly cause repercussions in the ranks! You already know my views on gods, angels and demons I think. All in the mind. The day is grey-white today but when I read your title the place seemed filled with red light and made my fingers tingle. The devil breathed down my neck. Great Rett. Thank you. Ann of Norway

Thank you Ann

Just because I believe does not mean I am a fanatic about it nor do I condemn anyone's belief or lack of belief. I just have questions at times and a lot of times what is preached does not coincide with the teachings of the bible. Some of the bloodiest times in history have been caused by a corruption of religion to fit the power hungry ways of a fanatical few. That does not mean all religion is bad or that all religion is good. It just means that like everything else it can be corrupted by greed and a search for power. Very glad you liked it. Yep, I may get strong repercussions on this, but it is legitimate questions about things as I am not questioning God, just organized religions. I can't be tossed out of a church or religion for heresy as I don't go. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

Hi Rett, I too have pondered

Hi Rett, I too have pondered this my whole life. I ask the question from another vantage point..... would doctor's, peacemakers, psychiatrists, preachers, etc. be willing to give up their cherished professions, beliefs, in order to facilitate a world without need of them? I am somewhat removed from my *Dudley-do-right* syndrome. It seems that many folks in my Middle East Peace Forum seem to have a stake in things being what they are, and care not to see the light at the end of the tunnel, which of course, means not being so identified with either *side*. What if there's no one left to save from anything? Much love, Rett.... your poems always speak with clarity and charity. Hug. ~Annna "We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. Hi Ann, I'm making a quantum leap (?) here, interpreting *my* poem *Poetry is not Beautiful" to which you reference. Saved--is not that what every religion, every philosophy, medical or psychological, social practice, or World War, conflict we have encountered our whole lifetime would so engender...as if anything can or will save us from what is? That makes us all responsible and we can't blame the *devil*....whether or not s/he is in the details.... Love. ~A "We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. I have always wondered why so many religions are at odds with each other. Sure, maybe the way they worship is a bit different, but they all have one overiding thing in common. It matters not if they say Yaweh, Jehovah, God, Allah, Great Spirit, etc... they all mean God, a supreme being etc.., Why can't they let it go at that? Thank you for reading Anna and for you views. Not all religions

include a god, or all those titles, the Buddhist's have no individual personified deity, neither do the most of the religions of the east, the idea of good and bad do not exist, they are one and the same thing, the two sides of the coin so to speak, non duality in other words. One cannot exist without the other. We are all talking here as westerners brought up in the religions of the west and have not the understanding of other ways of looking at it all, they have their Christ-like beings who lived to tell of the possibilities of harmony and love, but they are not worshipped like gods, or God. I am not an expert on religions but have long been inspired by the writings of the eastern aesthetic attitude to life and nature and like that view of our existence. It is perhaps more an attitude to life than a religion. I found a quote but am not sure exactly where it came from:- "Man 1014, is the most ferocious of all the animals, man is the measure, the limit, the beginning and the end of all things. Mountains are in themselves only lumps of earth and stone, it is the mind of man, of this man, which makes them teachers, comforters, monsters and enemies." Monk Ryokan:- Our life in this world - to what shall I compare it? Its like an echo resounding through the mountains and off into the empty sky. Or...Monogatari:- Living in this world - to what shall I compare it? Its like a boat rowing out at the break of day, leaving no trace behind. Yours with respect Ann P.S. I do see what you mean about the western religions they do have the same God although they don't seem to be able to see that.

Yes, I know not all

That is why I said so many. Hinduism and Buddism per se is not actually a religion so much as it is a tenant or belief, but it matter not what you call it, too many are at odds over trifling things. It isn't just western, but middle eastern as well. The western religions have their different denominations who are sometimes or I should say, a lot of times at odds with each other. A fine example of that is the Protestant and Catholic conflict. I have never understood it. Both believe in God period. Jewish and Christian faith at odds, Why? forget the differences, they believe ing God whatever they call Him. Muslim sect against Muslim sect. Why? they both believe in Allah or God. Jewish and Muslim faith at odds. Why? Both faiths were basically founded by father Abraham. Both faiths prepare and eat the same types of food for the most part. They both believe in God no matter what they call him. All are composed of God's children no matter who they are and what they believe or don't believe. They should all focus on what they have in common and not the differences. Fighting over religious beliefs or non beliefs is irrelevant if people truly believe because we are all God's children. If people don't believe what is the difference? We are all human beings and should be treated as such. Religious Conflict = 0. A violation of human rights = 0. In agreement

I am totally in agreement with you about the religions with the same roots, what can they find to argue about, there are no absolutes to 'truth' in this human perceived world. And there are so many small sects beside (inside) the big one's . I stood on a hill in the Norwegian forest and felt very strongly one day that I was a human being on the earth and all names of countries and differences were gone, I felt neither English, Norwegian German, Japanese...any of the countries in the world. I do not discriminate except those who discriminate against others. There was a Unitarian minister in Leicester who preached a beautifully poetic (quoting some poetry) sermon; praising God as required. I say that because after the sermon the congregation was invited to come to the hall at the back of the church, and there were great discussions among all, some saying "I am a Muslim, or Catholic, or... and adding to the discussion which was very interesting. Then someone in the audience asked him point blank, "do you believe in God" to which he answered "No"!! takes all sorts what? Respectfully Ann

But that is what comedy is, the ability to laugh at ourselves. You had some great comments and I enjoyed them as much as the write... but being the questioning person I am... wasn't Satan's soul previously saved... is he not the Beautiful One... an Angel. *LOL* You are correct Richard

In both respects. They would be out of work and Satan was once God's top Angel. His Right Hand Man if you will. The beautiful one who aspired to be greater than God and thus was cast out and became the enemy or so it is said. My little poem is pure speculation on what would the preachers do when faced with that occurance. The belief in Jesus has nothing to do with Angels nor does it preclude it. Angels are talked about all through the Bible and I see no conflict. I appreciate the read Richard and am always interested in your observances as they are always quite good! Thank you. well,

these are thoughts I have wondered myself. The thing is, most pastors I have come across are the most humble, sincere, gentle people I have ever met. They don't not attend things like strip clubs because of any feelings of superiority, but rather because they would be mortified to disrespect the name of God. You did a great job here of illustrating the misconceptions that non believers have about church, and in pointing out some of the hypocrisy that unfortunately has flooded into it. In the end, it is not that a Christian is better, perfect, etc. We're not, you know it, I know it, anyone with a right mind knows it. In the end it is all grace. The same grace that God extends to us is extended to all people. And it is only His grace, not our doing, that allows us to live peacefully. Mark W. hey Amartya,

I'll go a step further and say the process not only has begun, but has been prevalent in the church for thousands of years. I often ask people "who were the people that Jesus had the biggest problem with in the Bible." Many don't realize that it was the religious people over any others. Rett asked about the prostitute in this poem. Jesus routinely showed care and concern for her, for the criminal, the cheat, the sinner. He frequently chided the priests for dereliction of duty and tampering with God's word. A good illustration of Christ's way with people is in John 4:1 - 32, the story of Jesus meeting the woman at the well. Jesus, being a Jew, was travelling from Judea to Galilee. Now, the land of Samaria was between the two regions, but the Jews and Samaritans hated each other. Lots of racism, classism, etc. Most people would walk arond Samaria because of this. Jesus travelled straight through, as was His custom. He stopped at a well where a Samaritan woman was drawing water and asked for a drink. From a cultural standpoint this was very taboo, as A: She was a Samaritan, and B: She was a woman and in that culture a Jewish man and Samaritan woman did not talk. Christ told her about her life, and offered her forgivness and eternity. Notice verse 21 "Jesus replied,'Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.'" Christ was, and is about freedom, whereas much of religion is about rote tradition and ceremony. A read of the Bible reveals major divergences with church. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in, thanks for the opportunity. Mark W. "An insult is just someone who hates you making a noise to indicate their hatred, a barking dog. Criticism is someone trying to help you, by telling you something about yourself that you were a little too comfortable not knowing. " ~ David Wong

Ray, good answer first and this

As Mark said. It has already happened over and over again. There should be no one jumping on you about it. One thing I have learned over the years is no one will change my mind on how I believe and I am not going to change how they believe. We just need to look at the things in common and forget the rest. Mark covered most of what I was getting at in his answer right above here. The prostitute, the thief, etc... are just as needy of help as Joe Blow who has a million dollars up the street there, yet so many times money over rides salvation. No, I am not preaching here and not trying to change viewp-oints. Just questions and speculations. Thing I think about. I appreciate you taking the time to read my friend. Thank you! You certainly stirred up the

You certainly stirred up the conversation! lol.. hmmm you can write, no doubt about that. and your words have most certainly effected people and made them think. I feel i would be remiss if i did not comment, right or wrong. I can't help but be a little offended...i know there are tons of people (preachers) that are not always what they seem. But, i hope the majority truly have good hearts and are sincere. I am talking about the every day, down to earth men of God that try their best to help their fellow human beings. To lump them all into one catagory is a bit disrespectful. (sorry rett..i do hope you will forgive me for saying so) Our free will, Given by God, allows man to make his own decisions, I belive that evil/devil does infulence our decisions by the very fact too many of us become self seeking and allow greed, pride...ect, get in our way. (me included..though i know we try, usually not as hard as we should). I respect all religions, for we all come from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiances. I wanted to say something about church. Many people don't go..and that is their choice, but I do believe there are TONS of good things that come from going. Many many organizations that reach out and help the less fortunate would not be available if it weren't for the support of a church or religious affiliation of some sort. Boys ranches, health clinics, disaster relief teams, retirement homes, food kitchens...the list is long. The coming together of individuals, with diverse talents, united, allow these programs to flourish and be sucsessful. The whole of a people giving their time, talents, support(whether financial or just helping hands) make up a church. I know bad things happen within churches, as anywhere else, and I believe is because of mans individuality...but not the idea of the institution itself. I had to say what i thought, and i do pray i have not offended anyone in doing so. most respectfully..Tonya hmmm...maybe at the bar is the best place to be..for isn't a lost sheep one that needs more attention that one already in the flock?

Tonya, by no means am I offended

This poem is pure speculation and you have just as much right to say what you feel as I or anyone else does. I value your input on it. It isn't just religion that is effected, it is everywhere in life. A corruption of the belief is the problem. As I stated earlier, I am sure there are many good preachers out there. I just have not personally met one. I grew up slightly warped by my father, a part time preacher, womanizer, child and wife beater. Every church I have attended in my young life was corrupt. From Preacher W***** of Mt. Sinai Church which was my first exposure who got caught by my older brother with a 16 year old choir girl and was almost drowned in the Baptism pool because of it, to Preacher K**** of the Church of God in Morgantown, Mississippi who taught the evils of television and had a TV antenna hidden in the big tree by his house, the cord burried in the ground and the TV hooked up in his closet so he could watch it without being seen. Then Reverend N**** in Angleton, Tx. who wouldn't take the job without a brand new brick home built for him and a new Cadillac was bought. to numerous others that said one thing and did totally different. I have watched the churches I belonged to or visited collect money to give to various groups and places overseas and two houses down a family was starving or no electricity, but they weren't important. Yet, in fairness, I have heard about the preachers and churches that have bought groceries for needy families in their community whether they belonged to the church or not so it does go both ways. I firmly believe in God. I just do not believe in the churches, that's all. This was purely speculation about what would they do? Think about it. With no Satan, what would they do? No fear of eternal damnation to reel them or others in. If you really think about it, it is scary! BTW. I loved your answer and I loved how well you expressed it and presented your views. They were well stated, clear, concise and very good and I applaud you. Good for you. Stand up and be counted. Too many don't. Thank you very much for doing so. I am sorry if I offended you. It is my view and my speculation and I am not trying to change anyone to my belief. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." Mark 13 - 17

After reading some more of the comments, I just thought I'd throw in another couple of cents' worth... Mark: 13 - 17 13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. 14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him. 15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. 16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? 17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance... ...and the moral of the story is...never let your religion get in the way of doing some good? or how about... ...You're more likely to experience Christ and his mercy in a bar or saloon or brothel or casino than in church or in the words of some preacher, since those places, and the sinners in them, are more likely to be graced by his presence? Just a thought Respectfully, Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

*L* What is the going rate for Repees?

My neighbor, whom I respect a great deal is a staunch Christian and church goer. I had him speak at my mother in law's funeral as he has earned my respect more than anyone I know. He is a hard working carpenter with his own business who does a lot of work for the elderly for free or on a cost of material basis as needed. He is nowhere near weak minded and will stand up for his worst enemy if he believes that person is being treated wrongly. He doesn't drink or smoke, womanize or curse, yet he is very strong-willed and smart. So, in response to weak-minded, I would say, Jesse Ventura wrestled too long and lost his sense. To me, the weak minded are the ones who want the government to hand them everything on a silver platter because they "deserve" it. My feelings are that you earn what you are given. No one deserves a handout. If they "need" one is a different matter. I am more than happy to lend aid to someone who is trying to aid themselves. Joe and Jenny blow who won't hit a lick at a stick and father or mother children with no regard to whether or not they can or will support them deserve no help. Joe or Jenny that go out there and smoke crack, drink or do other drugs don't "deserve" help so they can continue to do what they want. Anyone on public assistance should have to go through a drug and alcohol screening just as the people who work have to. To give help or to only have pity because they are worse off is not help. That is weak minded not just any religious place. Now that I "preached" my sermon, *LOL* I found your comment quite interesting Ray and I appreciate it. Dang, I got to be a long winded old cuss there didn't I? *LOL* Thanks Ray. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." ah, dear Amartya Ray

usually I would leave such an ignorant statement alone, but I've got to defend my people. For starters, there are many folks you could quote from who are far more respected than Jesse Ventura. Enough said on that. Secondly, earlier you admitted that you did not study Christianity, and knew very little about it. Thus to fling a comment like "any religious place is for the weak minded" smacks of ignorance. I don't necessarily blame you, after all what can you know about that which you haven't been exposed? Let's consider a question: "What is a church?" Or, more importantly "What is THE church?" Very roughly defined "the church" is a group of people who believe in and follow God. It is not Catholic, Protestant, nor Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, nor Iroquious. It is all, and none of these things. While you may have heard of things like "the Catholic church," and "the Lutheran church," etc. if you look at the Bible you will see that God makes no distinction about what a person calls Him. I truly believe, based on my reading of the Bible that "the church" consists of people of all faiths. God reached out to a man named Cornelius in the book of Acts, chapter 10, though he was not a "Christian" per se. The same thing happened in Genesis chapter 20, and at other times throughout the Bible. But I digress, that's not the issue in question here. Throughout history my people have been crucified, burned alive, fed to animals, had their skin removed, been torn apart, speared, beheaded, and further. All in the name of Christ. I can assure you that those men, women, and children who died those horrible deaths were not weak minded. At many times they could have denounced the church, denounced Jesus. It was the faith and strength of God that let them look death in the eye and remember that there is promised for us a better place. Now I know that part of the reason I've been basically liked on this site is because of the laws of plurality, "live and let live," so to speak. I realize that, and am not easily offended. I also am very aware that people from all faiths have made great sacrifices. Hence when I say "my people" I mean exactly what I mean when I say "the Church," and that is all who sincerely seek the Great Creator. There is no weakness in that. Yours, Mark W. Proverbs 27:6 "Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy."

lol, thanks Rett.. I truly

lol, thanks Rett.. I truly am sorry you have had such bad experiances with church. It can be an amazing uplifting place. Unfortunately you are right, there are way too many in it for their own profit. It makes my heart heavy and sick to see the such controversy in such places that should be offering peace and love for ALL people!

Rett,

excellent piece of writing!! According to the bible all have a chance to be saved even the "devil". there are a lot of so called men of God who don't believe that even Hitler could be saved, but according to the bible and not religion any man can be saved. I agree with Jim that Jesus came to earth to save the sinner, and to do that he had to be among them to save them, not in some lofty place. So I say to them be careful what you wish on others, you might be writing your own fate!! That's my two cents!!!! It is an interesting bit of speculation though. Let's face it, none of us, believer or non-believer are perfect, we just do the best we can. I appreciate it Eddie. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

Jobaby x2

Two out of three is pretty good. It is pure speculation on my part and I also figured it would garner a lot of response, but PR? Nah, just interested in how others feel about it. I will say that on any poem, the title and the fist two lines are extremely important in catching the interest of a reader. It seems I have succeeded even beyond what I'd hoped. *LOL* That is also a hazzard with the title and first two lines. I want to see what people "think" and don't want any arguments because we're all in this old world together and understanding viewpoints and speculating on what would happen is a key. I appreciate it. I have to admit this is way beyond what I expected. Thanks for dropping by and giving your view. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." Rett old buddy from hell!

their is nothing better then a good debate by intelligent people!! PR, now that's bull, I know that PR is not your stick. you are the guy who puts the question out there and waits for the echo to come back. That's why you get the good response, or bad. The point being that it works for you. thanks, Eddie Life is like a railroad track that leads to many junctures, if you stand on the track Love comes speeding along and runs you over!! Splat!!!!

Eddie, is the glass half full or half empty? My comments to Rett (which I had a right) were complimentary not meant as insulting. Calm your nerves and have a nice day.
