serenity
in the midst of morning mist
when shrubs their petalled branches
usher towards the sky
and muted grass, though trampled,
utterly refuse to die
where trees in their devoir shadows cast
that lull and heaven through
woolly clouds the sun allows to shine,
i sense the heave of giant tides
invade the slumber of the day
‘till wearily the massive waves
retire to the borders of the sway
where wings inexhaustibly flutter
over wooded lands and plains,
i see a lonely eagle prudently soar
while circling the afternoon for prey
‘tis where I want to stay
and lounge my days away
‘tis where I want to hear
my children’s chants
and songs without a rhyme
‘tis where i want to attest their innocence
in the serenity they decree,
by the nonsense
they utter in my ear
