Death Comes With the Blackbird

Death Comes With the Blackbird

When calls the Blackbird as night falls
Across the souls of men,
When flies the Owl on silent wings
And men forget what's been,
When crows the Rooster at the dawn
And salvation is forgot,
Then shall mans blood run red
And flesh upon his body rot.

When angry sets the evening sun
Upon the ocean wide,
When flies the Gull on blood-red wings
And shallow runs the tide,
When blows the wind from the north
And cold fills the morn,
Then shall waters rise on high
To smite the ones they've borne.

When the Eagle soars no more
Within the sight of man,
When the Vulture kills its prey,
And the moon flies thin and wan,
When the Dove attacks the Hawk
And brings him to the ground,
Then shall man arise once more
And their feats shall know no bounds.

Sir Rett of Rhyme,

I don't know what got you so angry but I sure am glad you wrote this! I think this is the darkest write coming from you pen which I have read yet. I like Evil-Pissy-Mood-Rett... ;-) your Proprietress

Thank You Proprietrss

Sometimes it just happens. My wife says I get the man's version of PMS (she calls it pissy mood syndrome). I have gotten dark a few times. I don't know if you have read it as you may have come here after I posted it, but I think you would like "The Wolf". Anyway, I truly appreciate it. Glad you like Evil Pissy Mood Rett. *LOL* Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

Thanks Janice

I appreciate it. I'll try to think about love, but right now all I can think about is the pain in my back. *G* Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

Oh strange thoughts

A very strange story Rett and with some lovely rhyme, I am not sure I wish to be part of your world here as I love the blackbird and his most melodious song, admittedly he is black and that's the colour of death in men's eyes. A black theme gives one a feeling of powerful darkness doesn't it, rather exciting. My aunt had a coal black cat and called him Satan, so sweet-natured and sleekly shiny his fur, he was well fed and sat beside my aunt when she died devoted to the end. I think men's feats already know no bounds, unfortunately. oh how you make me want to fly all these wonderful birds. Yours Ann of Norway.

I actually like Blackbirds.

Crows I am not so fond of. Raucous Racket Makers and tend to get in my garden. I once had a solid black cat named Snowball. *LOL* Glad you liked it. Thank you very much. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

You too, huh? Found myself to be very cranky today also. Hope your day brightens up, and if not, than I hope tomorrow is a better day. :~) ps. do you think it's the full moon?? ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"As you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never point in the wrong direction!" -"God is good, but never dance in a small boat."

Jess, my friend

It could be. As pissy as I was I guess I was a bit of a lunatic. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!

Liked this one, don't know about black birds and crows, but to me the dove and the birds were a symbol of what is to come......... as you said. Enjoyed the part about the water rising and smiting, great use of words here. Vivid imagery and full of symbolism. I enjoyed this poem Patty

Thank you my friend

I was in such a bad mood when I wrote it. It helped. We are fast becoming the United Socialist Republic of Amerika and it ticks me off. Oh well, life goes on. Come on 2010 so we can vote some of those idiots out of congress and senate. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."
