Quivers Again
So I thought about what my friend said,And I asked you about the fellas,Oh I tried to ask you so coyly,And you struck me with your matter-of-factDelivery, that in fact you did, and who was I trying to kid,By keeping my hopes alive that little bit longer. This longing, the pining, replaced quite sharpishWith off-colour whining into my pillowcase, what a headcase,And the kiss I remembered so fondly has suddenly changed its flavour,In my mind, it’s gone from oh so sweet to bloody sour,You heard me right, oh that’s right,I forgot I don’t have the means to fight it,“That’s life, kid!”, as the uninspired might say,I think all I said to you on that day was “Oh right, well that’s nice…What’s his name, then?”She laughed, said “Well, what does that even matter?”“Aye ok then, I guess I’ll keep out the way.”Two months later, got an email from her,She had the gall to call me “bro”,Oh miss, I just don’t think you get it,‘Cause brothers and sisters don’t kiss,The way that you kissed me, and lots more.On that night, your skin felt so warm,But allegedly you’re cold at the core.I hope you have fun, with the stylings ofThis urban bohemia, You snatched from the movies,As a way to make churlish excuses,To the boys that you left at the proverbial altar,I’ll bet there were plenty before me,Aye, you heard me correctly,From now on I’ll stick to a more usual piety.
