Think Like a Child (Sonnet Trilogy 2)
Put away those childish things, I was told;
now is the time to be responsible.
The world is a big place and full of gold;
make your place and make it notable.
This is all you have to do: work hard, then
work harder; goods will surely come to you.
Don’t think about other folks; forget when
sleep mattered; drudgery alone will do.
I watched the clouds blow past the window—
quickly turned back to the grave work at hand,
still more deadlines to meet, reap what you sow,
you know. How else will you take this rich land?
At end of day, gold lay far from my feet,
and ‘twas pink clouds I remembered so sweet.
now is the time to be responsible.
The world is a big place and full of gold;
make your place and make it notable.
