Midnight Dream of an Artist (revised)

Midnight Dream of an Artist

He begin to sketch, with his favorite pen,

Graceful shimmering lines in elegant curves

Across a plane of white,

His vision; a skillfully woven delight

Which eased one frayed edge of fragments

Gathered from wispy dreams, into another.

Every night, an adventure unfolded.

From the dark brink of R.E.M. state sleep

An exotic intoxicating vixen invaded,

He longed to hold her in his arms of substance…

She had become his obsession to the point

He could not wait to slip into his slumber.

Completing the eyes of his nightly guest

Caressing her lashes with touches of black;

He stands back to view and watches the deepest

Dark shade of midnight blue twinkle in the light,

As if she watches his every move, encouraging

His magic merge to continue its’ spell on canvas.

Shades of glossy cherry and blood drop scarlet

Are taken from his palette of pinwheel colors;

He mixes the brilliant hues to match the translucent

Vision of beguiling kissable lips, capturing the

Taunting glimmer of promised rapture with

Dabs of rich paint from a finely pointed brush tip.

Corals, sun touched beige, and palest rose tint splashes

In order within the border of an appreciative sculpted frame

Shading and shaping this graceful limbed reverie

That would move like a dance and

Sway in mysterious cadence.

So close to completing his masterpiece,

He pushes his creative mind well past endurance of time, finally

Lays down his brush, sinks into the nearest chair, drinking

In this vision; sighs, closes eyes and hears the chime of the midnight hour

The air buzzes, vision blurs, and the universe pauses to the powers that be,

Completed, she steps forward, takes his hand, and smiles.

artist dream poem

Tonya, I like the story, then got to the end and thought, "one more verse", in which he thinks he's still awake, but he could swear the eyes move, and the lips whisper... and he is stunned, but does not wake up. ? wcw
