Culinary Laziness

*thanks to Mark W.(conect11) for his 'wee kitchen' and 'laziness' inspiration!*

It's truly discouraging trying to work in a wee bitty kitchen.
There is no counter-space, as they're
quite full with knife blocks, spice racks, and appliances!
I could probably make a lot more things homemade
if I had the space.
and time!

Instead, there are a lot of shortcuts taken.
Swanson broth as the base to my stew.
A jar of spaghetti sauce as the base for chili.
And frozen veggies that steam in the bag!
(best invention ever!)

There is one good thing about my small
working space:
I turn around, and step twice
and everything is in my reach!
It's kind of cool to be chopping up veggies
and be able to turn, and dump them in
a pan on the range to be sauteed.

The only way that can be beat
is if I design a device
that will carry it over to the range for me!

Jess

I'll say you have! I would have expected a wee bit more humor from you on this one as I have always known you to be as sharp as tacks with your wit P.S. a smaller kitchen is harder to keep clean despite the convenience you noted Mom

Hi Jess

Did you know that if you substitute the kitchen in your poem for the mind and the food for thoughts (no pun intended) it takes on a real sense of gnosis. Perhaps everything is a microcosm of the macrocosm. Either that or I'm full of the brown stuff. tee hee Being confined to minimalism, although awkward and frustrating at times, does force us to be more creative and inventive and as you point out theres always an up side. You are unable to fully supress your positive nature.

*blushes that he would help inspire a poem*

and then I laughed at all the things I saw in myself in this brilliant piece! I often deride myself for not cooking more at home, being a chef and all. Incidentally, my first "big" gig was at a place in Cleveland called "The Grovewood Tavern and Wine Bar." The kitchen there could barely fit me, and if necessarily one other person. Yet it was the most efficient, funnest place I ever worked. Mark W. Galatians 5:22-23 "22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against these, there is no law!" My favorite verse(s) in the Bible

Good kitchen humor,Jess........

But I agree with Mom on this write.A little more humor would have put this entry in another gear.I love how your previous poems hit the funnybone, and humor is a very invaluable asset to a writer. But I can still relate to you.Ive lived in some places where you would almost have to hurdle appliances just to navigate between rooms! And wouldnt laziness be fun if we had a remote controlled chef?(lol) I liked this one.Keep writing,Jess. Your friend,in peace, Scott.
