Abandoning familiar sounds
In that moment we abandoned
care of all we’ve gathered round.
Our present lives so moribund,
give comfort in the steady sound;
so familiar in its middle tones
that please with easy listening.
Our nights spent wandering alone
in places past imagining,where something empty resonates,
its vessel walls constraining need,
but can such hollow music make
our lives full by denying greed?
No, we are not half-formed muses,
warmly cocooned in single beds,
there is more than conscience chooses
to play our hearts and lose our heads.
