a nod to my betters...

I crave your genius if I could but hook my little pinky into the curves of your penned radiance and dangle there just to be witness to the ride, to the flight of mind your legacy conjures…if only I could swallow my jealousy long enough to catch the bitter warm and blood like metallic taste you leave behind perhaps I could become more, better…you have ruined me, ruined my genius and still I want you or at least that damned pen…

I love this piece! Keeping up the strife to become better is really important, and everyone can improve. We only start from different points and angles. I always think of you as one with awesome starting conditions. Thanks for reminding me that there is ALWAYS room for improvement, ~Nina

wow yall! thanks!

the amount of talent on this site never ceases to amaze me! and at times i must admit that i read and because uncontrollably depressed and even jealous of some of that talent...but alas i can not control the craving i have for such fine things and so i torture myself...i can only hope to be a fraction of the poet some of you are! know that i love you all! <3 Emarie @~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@ 'My prayer is a rapture in blue' - The Ink Spots 'My Prayer' 1939

courage can be a cowardly thing...

at times i hide behind my courage like a shiny breast plate, all the time hoping not catch my reflection on the backside... ps...if i thought the likes of Shakespeare and Coleridge worth my purtty little head then darlin i would have been gone long ago...i am many things but a foolish woman i am not...nothing, with the exception of three precious little souls, could make me willingly spill my own blood. much love darling! <3 Emarie @~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@ 'My prayer is a rapture in blue' - The Ink Spots 'My Prayer' 1939

Emarie, I’ve been trying

Emarie, I've been trying to find appropriate words to reply to your poem. Can't.(Though I have--still am--"been there and done that") ... So I'll just say *I* can only be the best I can be in this moment I am... (that applies to somebody, nobody and everybody who is, was or ever will be and screw Shakespeare & Coleridge, anyhow ;-) Hug. ~Anna "We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. And when you have an intense contact of love with nature or another human being, like a spark, then you understand that there is no time and that everything is eternal." Paulo Coelho

Sorry, Emarie, a *great*

Sorry, Emarie, a *great* poet takes his/her feelings of inadequacy and makes a living homage a la cinematic rendition of Salieri (in Amadeus). (Besides, who's to say that you aren't already a famous artist, writer, poet & musician.. It just takes time for the world to *notice* it.) ;-) It's just a lunar phase we must be going through, I was so frustrated at the world and myself that I decided not to write anything for a few days, punishing who, I wonder? LOL. Poets are strange animals. I think sometimes I foam at the mouth and I have to hide the mirrors in my house. ~A "We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. haha

well foaming or not i still love you! funny you should mention Salieri...after posting i thought to myself that i must seem as rediculous as he...haha oh well...just know that i would never plot to kill any of you...*mwahahahahaha...*clears throat*...i mean that would just be crazy right?...LOL i agree with the lunar phase...i have not seen him in a while and hiding from my moon always creates a sort of havoc in my life... much love darling! <3 Emarie @~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@ 'My prayer is a rapture in blue' - The Ink Spots 'My Prayer' 1939

LOL

Loved the poem. I think you have probably echoed the innermost thoughts of virtually every writer on this site! Both in your poem & responses above :) I once got into a fit of rage when I was trying to study the romantic poets in university (college) because of troubles with interpretation - threw all my toys out the cot. So I wrote a crap poem about it (which, unlike yours, really was crap) & realised it wasn't that I was having trouble with interpretation, it was that I was deeply aware of the fact I would never write poetry like that. Same kind of feeling I got when I read the book 'Shantaram' & realised I would probably never write a book like that. So, yes, I understand what your poem is about & yes, I can relate. But as I said before, I think most others on the site can too... So whatever you do - keep writing, despite the vanished muse (or plentiful booze). And...um...the beauty about a site like this is that even if you were plotting to off a few, you don't know where we live! Jo

Ready for a laugh?

I managed to dig up the poem I was talking about above which I wrote when I was 18. Its rather self-important title is "The study of the poetry of others" My intended servility At the grand-masters feet Turns to a bemused incomprehension; An irritable wave lapping, slapping Lightly my preconceptions And shocking irretrievably my hope Have they no mercy? No iota of kindness, of knowledge, of care - Their words are bound in form to be read Lord, they are better off dead Than to know what I read into them... I prepared myself to lay at their feet Like a sacrificial rat To gnaw in a quest for comprehension On the tired scuffed leather of their boots But the merest crack was opened And emitted a smell so foul That it reminded me a little knowledge is a dangerous thing And my ineptitude perhaps a tiresome blessing AH, to be 18 again :)

YES!!!!! Shantaram… A

YES!!!!! Shantaram... A reading experience everyone should have. I wonder what happened to the film? Johnny Depp was to play him. I put off reading it sometimes because I didn't want to finish the book. How delightful to meet someone else who loves it. BTW, for all those who don't know it, Shantaram is based on real-life experiences of Gregory David Roberts. How could I not fall in love with him? http://www.shantaram.com/ ~Anna "We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. A NOD....the poem

T.L.Blue, You're kicking butt, and writing feelings that most of us poets live with. Every time we put pen to paper, we want it to be stunning brilliance. Sometimes IT IS, and it just doesn't matter. This poem is awesome, as is "Poet, My Poet". I look for your work, because your heart is in it. And by the way, I opened your profile, and got a hot dose of Johnny Lang, "Angel Of Mercy".What a combination. Consider my butt KICKED! wcw
