Falling in love

IWings starting to growfragile still, unable to lift me Colours piercing the eye more than usualthere is a piece amiss in this jigsawand my tears run like riversalas, I smile an idiot's smile If only I knew... III used to see through all your disguisesnow I hardly dare to look you in the eyesuperstitiously, I fear I might drownor you might be devoured by my hungry gaze We used to embrace like brother and sisternow I hardly dare to touch your hand superstitiously, I fear I might faintor you might be crushed by my pricking thumbs My mind travels lightyears... IIICan gazes meet or do they intertwine? Can hearts grow wings or do they dislocate? Can friends be lovers or are we deceived? If only I knew...

A realistic examination

of loves inquisition. Personal, yet relative. If only we knew.. If we knew for sure.. would it be such an experience? Would we still forge ahead? In ink, Dabbler

David,

it´s awesome to get a comment from you! You´re right, not knowing is a major part of the fun! Thanks, ~Nina

You capture the doubt and surprise and wonder so very well. My wife and I were good close friends long before we became lovers; the day she told me her feelings had turned to love was a day filled with such doubt and whirlwind surprise, for me. You take me back to that day! Respectfully, Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Jim,

that´s flattering. And maybe it is the answer to my final question... Thanks, ~Nina

piece amiss...

I love that metaphor. glad you posted this, I think I remember some of it.. ? the three parts go together well. it is ridiculously hard to get a patchwork-poem to work. I think you have done a splendid job, my dearest friend. I miss you, Kata

Yes, Kata,

you have heard the first part before. That makes it extra special when you tell me it works as a whole! Missing you, too, ~Nina

Love is indeed a huge enigma

just when you think you know what it is then it seems you dont and yes the surprise element keeps us coming back for more. And then in the end when you truly find it, the surpises still keep coming and you keep redefining it as best you can until you finally give up and just let yourself go with the flow and wherever it takes you. Enjoyed your patchwork quilt poem lol Keith

I think your ‘patchwork’

I think your 'patchwork' is very coherent & works really well Nina! Even though I've never written one myself I'm quite partial to poems with different 'chapters' so to speak, don't know why actually ; ) There's this great poem by Jane Kenyon about depression that's also written like that. Anyway, back to your subject. So much contradiction in your lines which I like because love is confusing and conflicted like that. 'Can friends be lovers?' you ask. And can lovers be friends? I wonder.. Touching write Nina ~Stella

Stella,

you´re right, the question can be turned around... Do you remember the title of the poem you mention? I would love to read it! Funny, how the pieces we are uncertain about seem to work quite well for others sometimes, while they might find lots to "construct" where we would never have guessed... Yours, ~Nina

Nina, it’s called

Nina, it's called 'having it out with melancholy' if I'm not mistaken. Think it might be on the American Poets website : ) ~Stella

If you had not told us that this was a patchwork, I would not have known! Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Jim,

that surprises me, as I can still see the stitches... By the way, I read your poem about your sons recently, and was encouraged to finally post one about my own son. Thanks, ~Nina
