FALSE ACCUSATION
FALSE ACCUSATION Whilst weekend purse went leanExcept for a five Naira tucked awayIn a book, for a time like thisWhy couldn’t I find the money?I left my doors always openThat is just who I amFrustrated in my searchI levelled accusationOn the little boy next doorAssertive quiz, convincedBoy’s ingenuousness stood tallWho lost the money? It was meThree months have passedStrain continued to dig the divide I picked John ploughman’s TalkOn a fine afternoon, guess what I sawA neat five Naira bill, tucked awayFor a rainy day, which came and wentMy God! That was not a dreamCold chill gripped my fearTo wrong an innocent childI summed up my broken nervesKnocked on my neighbour’s doorThough difficult as it wasTendered admission of guiltHush was what I got, butBrave was this act, friendship renewedLessons learnt for a lifetimeNever to accuse when in doubt
