I've seen enough: a belated take on the surge in Iraq

I've seen enough:
a belated take
on the surge
in Iraq

---

has this simile
a like perfection?
                        ---Wilbur
---

the unfurled surge,
such as it is,
like diarrhea

will run its course,

after which will
return the war
to its former

constipation.

Chuck,

I´ve never seen a more elegant way of saying "War is shit". Awesome! Yours, ~Nina

a very

biting and entirely appropriate indictment of what is manure. if only the "constipation" as you put it would swell up in those responsible for the rest of their lives. gb

I was "bound" to make a comment sooner or later!

oh, that's rich. I wonder if war has ever benefitted anyone besides those in charge? Mark W. Galatians 5:22-23 "22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against these, there is no law!" My favorite verse(s) in the Bible

In explanation:

I've now a long time heard various assessments, usually via TV/magazine/newspaper, of the success/unsuccess of the "surge." The clincher for me, after reading a number of books re the war in Iraq (and how it began ... and why) was my reading of the recently authored tome "The Forever War." As a young man, I had trouble understanding the why (and the how) of our fighting in Vietnam; now, with decades of seasoning behind me, I have even more trouble grasping the whys of the current one in Iraq. Among my conclusions? By this war we've made the world a far more dangerous place for America and Americans than perhaps it's ever been. (And the surge is making it even worse.) How can powers in charge claim with straight faces to've kept us safe when the same powers have increased our insecurity by taking on such an ill-advised conflict that sacrifices our credibility internationally (among other qualities we once had more or less in spades)? We keep on flaunting our collective ignorant skirts while (at least some of us, anyway) congratulate ourselves. The surge cannot work (even though some misguided souls insist it's at present working very well) simply because the basic premise(s) for going to war in this case are so seriously, fundamentally flawed. Although I don't consider it the least bit funny, the surge, I assert, is a joke---with the ghoulish laugh on us. It throws good materiel and woman-/manpower after bad. We might as well just hurl our resources into the sea, an act that would likely not do us more harm than our present very expensive activities. These behaviors, both the fighting of a war we cannot afford and the throwing of more pollutants into the world's seas do us (and the world) terribly serious damage. Indeed! such admirably elegant ways we have of committing murder/suicide. Thanx all, Chuck

my biggest beef about iraq

my biggest beef about iraq is it was expected that the country when /if the war ends will heal itself and gladly accept a very different world view and somehow optimism would have to be the highest priority. liked this little piece chuck.

I hold that economy of words you wield in such esteem

A soooo powerful little commentary.. Ink put it so well too... (Also succinctly). I feel cowardly, oversensitive about such things, I am grateful to you for pulling them to our consciousness in such a wonderfully succinct way.. & I chuckle at the ease of that process for you also... me who is commonly so verbose... I hold that economy of words you wield in such esteem... & hope to absorb some of it by osmosis... (see doing it again... so many words to say.. I admire you!) Anni May I wish to walk gracefully..... so as not to spill water.
