Underwater {edit}

So much water, it's now almost everywhere,
As we watch yet again with dread and despair

I watch the water rise oh so very quick,
Rise so quick, it could almost be a trick

My mind starts to work double time.
All might be lost, it would be a crime.

Our we really prepared, more than before.
Can we say that it won't make it to the door.

Each second counts, deciding what I can spare.
I look at my husband, his long expression bare.

We've survived before and put it in the past,
But the memories it brings will forever last.

Lord please not again, can you spare the house,
Could you show a little mercy on me and my spouse.

I may not deserve it, but please hear my plea.
If this is your will my lord, then I guess let it be.

But if you could see fit to give us a chance.
I will sing your name and do a little dance.

I guess I already know it will all be O.K.
I will take it one step at a time, day by day.

We may loose thing's that we hold dear,
But I will no longer surrender to that fear.

 Julie

Dedicated to my parent's on 1/13/2009
as the water's finally recede from their house.

Dawning...

from your comment below the poem I am confused... were your parents victims of one of the recent floods? Upon reading the poem, I thought it to be about the rising waters due to the changes in our atmosphere... isn't that what this is about...? living green is the best choice... they are doing some amazing things in that field... enjoyed the read Richard

D.D.

Well I thought that was a jab at Rett but I didn't mention it because I thought maybe that was what you called your Dad also... I think you've taken Rett all wrong too... I believe him and I are close to believing the same as far as global warming... neither one of us dispute the planet is warming and going through changes, and they may be changes that devastate mankind... Neither one of us think that there isn't a need for "green" handling of our Earth, or developing new and better ways for energizing our world... it is merely the causes of global warming that gets stuck in our crawl... but there is indeed the need to go "green", no matter what is believed to be the causes.... sorry to hear that this was based on an actual flood, Richard

Double D

Man, that is scary to deal with and so devastating on everyone involved. The poem states it beautifully and I love it. I have it down here at times. The last big floods were in 73 and again in 79. Since then it has been relatively good here. Old Paw here only disputes the man made global warming part, as Richard said. You are most likely 100% correct on the deforestation and over development being the major cause. Also, some may be due to ground subsidence caused by overuse of groundwater resources like what happened here. This whole area went to surface water usage and subsidence has halted in most places. Richard is also correct in assuming we aren't far apart on things. I believe in going green. Consistently and steadily working towards renewable sources of energy and less pollution. Recycling, as I do, in every possible way. They also need to replant as they cut just as fields need to lie fallow for a year or so between crops, forestry must be allowed to regrow. What I don't believe in is attacking an unproven problem with such drastic measures it is like using a nuclear warhead to destroy a fly. Anyway, I loved the poem and even your little dig at "Paw". *LOL* You and Richard made my day. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

Nature's power

Do you really mean OUR in the 4th stanza, or ARE? Floods in your parts and fires in Australia, nature is the greatest power and we have to accept her strange decisions. How awful watching the waters rise in one's house, terrifying, luckily nothing like that has ever happened to me, I like to live up high. This was very descriptive, again I find no fault in its poetry. Yours Ann of Norway.
