through newborn eyes I look
into the wisdom of old age
across the galaxy I walk
while stars but light the stage

upon the withered wings of time
my soul sails on tears
to touch upon tomorrows
and caress the yesteryears

upon the winds of wishes
I surf the nova blasts
from the outer edge of never
to the core of what has passed

from the green hills of terra
to the rusty ruins of mars
I sail upon the dreams of man
and touch upon the stars...

Rett, I love the

Rett, I love the imagery...the way this is written really paints a vivid picture in the mind's eye...I especially like the line 'I surf the nova blasts from the outer edge of never to the core of what has passed.' Gave me a little chill when I read it! "If I had a prayer, it would be this: God, spare me from the desire for love, approval, or appreciation..." - Byron Katie

Real good

Heinlein on your mind, I see from the last verse! Shades of Lazarus Long? Excellent write, once again Respectfully, Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Holy Cow

Someone that has read Heinlein! Yay for you. You wouldn't happen to have a spare copy of "Time Enough For Love" laying around would you. Read mine so much it fell apart! Thank you Jim! Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

RE: Time Enough For Love

LOL Ditto, I'm afraid, Rett...mine fell apart long ago too! Same with my copy of "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress", one of my all-time favs. Reading "Friday" again right now though, had forgotten how much I enjoy it! with regard for a fellow Heinlein fan, Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Jess, Heinlein himself made fun of Stranger

Saying that a writer will do anything for money. *LOL* Stranger isn't the best to start with. I really liked a lot of his other stuff. The moon is a harsh mistress, the green hills of earth, and his whole series dealing with Lazarus Long aka Woodrow Wilson Smith. Start with Methuselah's Children, Time Enough for Love, The Cat Who Walked Through Walls, Number of the Beast and To Sail Beyond the Sunset. Heinlein had some great stuff and I have both versions of Stranger, The edited and the original uncut version. I Will Fear No Evil is another interesting one. Heinlein

Yeah Jess, my wife doesn't get Heinlein either. But then, I feel the same about Mary Higgins Clark, her favorite, so it all balances out! Regards, Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Jim

I don't like Mary Higgins Clark, Danielle Steel, or any of those type things. Iris Johanson (sp?), and the one who wrote 13th Tale (can't think of her name) came out with a couple good ones, and that's it. If it seems like it's going to be a soap-opera-ish type mystery book, I won't read it. I prefer my fiction to have a relevant basis - something very plausible, like Grisham. I guess that's why more often than not, I read non-fic! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "You can choose from phanthom fears, and kindness that can kill. If I may suggest, there is a book of Heinlein's that you might enjoy, at least partly, although Rett's list is in my opinion definitive. The book I have in mind is called "Expanded Universe", and it is a collection of some of his short stories, essays, speeches, political views, etc. His reminiscences of traveling in the old Soviet Union are particularly fascinating and funny. Rett, This is Awesome!

You have captured the essence of something that is beyond essence and yet a part of it! A trans-dimensional, Quasi-Godlike being that is Itself, a Poetic Spirit! My hat is off to you sir, and I am proud to be a Fan!

that truly was a great poem!

that truly was a great poem! beautiful imagery and great flow that was enjoyable to read. my only query relates the rhyme. the rhyming pattern was clearly evident in this poem for every stanza except for the third where there was no rhyme, was this intentional? a great piece anyway though!
Rett

Rett

17 years 4 months ago

Thanks Jinxed

Glad you enjoyed the imagery and flow. The third stanza is not an exact rhyme, it is more of a harmonic rhyme. When spoken they sound enough similar that it provides a near sounding match. Blast-passed ( passed sounds lake past) You will find this type of rhyme in some of the older poetry and a majority of songs. You're the only one that caught it. Kudos!
