Dry Paint
Toss and turn my head spins all night
Kick the sheets, I need to be out from underneath
The cold don’t phase me any more
I dreamed last night
For the first time in years
I take my brush
Dab it in ink and paint your face
As I remember it
Elegant and soft at the touch
A dim glow it won’t need much
Beauty and truth in the dark and light
Your eyes were the hardest, no picture or painting could display their beauty
You hair fell over your shoulders and was dashed over one eye
Your lips told a different story, but they aligned with your eyes
“All beauty, all brains, all hurt and all pain”
What could I have done to help?
Turn and kick my heart is racing like a kid in love
I sit on the edge of my bed just thinking
“What would I change, if I could change?”
The dark don’t phase me any more
I dreamed last night
For the first time in years
I take my brush
And apply your color scheme
As I remembered it
Tan but not too dark
Blonde hair and brilliant eyes and lashes
Your lips were painted in temptation
Beauty and truth in the dark and light
Your soul became the hardest; nothing could display its power
“All beauty, all brains, all hurt and all pain”
I tried to help
Scream and shout, I need to get out now
I pace across the room
“What the hell am I supposed to do”
I gave you everything I had
I gave you everything I could give
I gave you all my heart
I gave you all my love
What else do you need?
I take this masterpiece I have created
I tear it to shreds, and burn it on my newly polished wood floor
The fire spreads like a bad disease
And soon engulfs me
I awake to pain
Beeps and bright lights strain
My ability to see, the figure looming over me
They come to focus in
As the pain settles on my skin
I see your eyes, and it all starts to fade away
I dreamed last night
For the first time in years
It was you and me, both absent of tears
And we stood there in the moonlight
I held you like we were in love
And we kissed like we were made to be together
Your words were so strange but I understand now
“Paint beauty, and set it free”
If ever I found love, I found you
I dreamed last night
For the first time in years
