TENDABA CAMP

TENDABA CAMP   We took a trip to Tendaba camp

Through the plains of Lower River region

Where the serene ambience of the park On the north border of Casamance Welcomed us to the temple of love Where it all began, in supplicating spirit To renew that which has been blessed Two cycles of seven have passed The years have a lot of stories to tell Flowing Like waters of River Gambia   We were two trying to be one In return our prayers were blessed Two times two plus two is six And after the addition it became one One happy family living together Sharing in campfire dance and chorus The raconteur sang of forest house Where young boys were circumcised To mark their passage into manhood And girls danced to welcome them   We camped in huts and slept on the floor Away from the exasperating city noise Where traffic jam and vehicles hoot Living like this will stress you up And take humanity away from you So when you work, take a leave Purge the pressure from the hassles Forget your worries and care a little less For the mundane things of the world You will be shocked how well you heal

This is a joy to read

I love poetry that has very vivid imagery and that is what you have done here, and I also learnt a new word 'raconteur' which I like very much. However I think the last stanza is not really necessary as it gives the poem a prosaic feel.Just humble suggestions to a master of the art.Thank you.

Good...

Good suggestion, I tried to fight the prose in my scribbles but I was told that the signature of my works is predominantly prosaic, that I am a story teller, a narrator, so I went to the altar of poetry with my knees and prayed. I was asked to wait, so I am waiting and may be, just may be I will be a poet one day. Thank you for the reading, comment and suggestion. Best wishes. T.

No...

In Nigeria, boys are circumcised few days after birth, but on the west coast of Africa and especially the Mandingo or Mandinka in this particular case, as it applies to the Gambia, boys are circumcised around the age of thirteen. It is followed by celebration, that is, sing and dancing.Thank you for the reading and for the comment. Best wishes. T.

Thanks D.

Yes, we should not play with our vacation, it is very necessary to wind down after a year's work and with your family. Thank you for the reading and for the comments. Cheers. T.
