Online Romance

Online Romance

She sits at the computer screen
saying things she doesn’t mean
a picture posted that may be real
the lonely heart she wants to heal

Talking sexy to those that bite
sneaking out late in the night
acting older than her age
as the young hormones rage

The nice boy on the other end
says he wants to be her friend
plans they make to meet somewhere
to talk in private, thoughts to share

On the other side of the screen
is someone she’s never seen
she’s so sure he’s Mr. Right
there are no qualms, no fear or fright

Rushing to the corner street
sees the car she’s to meet
opens the door and jumps in
never to be seen …
again

Rett...

I didn't expect the ending... but I do believe it goes on much more than we realize. I have seen it on the News.. not all that long ago a young girl made that mistake but somehow escaped... but that is just one we have heard about.... Richard

Not a nice ending for sure

Happened about a year ago here, ended up dead. Guy just wanted to find out what it was like to kill someone. If you think about it, it is scarey as heck! Respectfully, Rett: "It’s impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside." Purplemoondoll

Rett,

This happens probably more often than we can imagine. As usual, your rhyming and rhythm is exceptional! Sincerely~ Debbie

My grandkids are not allowed

to have a computer in their rooms. They have to use it in the living room where we can all monitor what is going on at anytime. Thanks for your views Janice. Respectfully, Rett: "It’s impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside." Purplemoondoll

Oh, Rhett, how your poems

Oh, Rhett, how your poems are rhythmic in their courage! Another poem you should submit to many places, a thought to think about before *its' half-passed late.. Hug. ~A Sometimes I think back about myself....always have been too trusting...yet I balanced that sense with my intuitive sense... Thank God... else I wouldn't be here... as it turns out. Thanks Anna, might give that some thought.

Rett, Glad that you addressed this issue in your works, a gem, and the ending a shock to the reader! _____________________________ To write a touching poem, you must gently stir the soul, if it brings forth tears or smiles, then the story was beautifully told. ________Janice Pearce_________

Thank you Janice

I wanted people to think again about it. The computer is a great thing, but like most things, it has it's dangerous side also. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

I guess you guys have never watched hard candy

the 'young victim girl' kills her biting Mr. Right, and performs a castration on him. she was obviously never seen again cause she was running away from the cops. a simple reinterpretation. good poem, just the topic seems a little typical. I dunno, just for me.

Never seen hard candy. Is it a recent movie or TV show? This was inspired by news stories I have watched and read. Happens a lot more than you might think. Sorry you thought it was just a bit typical, but I appreciate your honesty and thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

Hi Rett

I'm sure this is getting rampant. Thank God my daughter got past this age. She liked boys more than computers. I will show her this so she can think about the future for her daughter. My son, on the other hand, married a girl he met on the internet. They got lucky. The poem, by the way is very tight, and the rhyme carries the reader along. The ending rhyme really gives it the punch--sad to be true--but poetic punch. Yours, Deelilah

Thanks Deelilah

My daughter and youngest son both married people they met on the internet so there is good as well as bad, but care needs to be exercised for sure. Glad you think it gets the point across. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

It's rather unfortunate that there are weirdos and sickos out there who would do this. I've seen the Internet bring together a good number of people, and I personally was able to reconnect with two of my best friends from high school. However, as you mentioned, it can be dangerous - not to mention a let down - case in point, last summer... ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "If we always give what we have always given, we will always get what we have always got..." - Mike R.

Absolutely Jess

And that is another hazard. Things don't always go the way they are planned. Thanks for reading. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

this

actually scared me. seriously. and that is absolutely not easy to do. you start out so patterned, almost making this the perfect kind of thing ("mr. right", etc) and then it jumps into a woman's possible disappearance and murder. and you know what? i totally agree with you. people sometimes overestimate the innate trustworthiness of Cyber Personality. particularly young people. i would encourage any parent to keep their child's nose in a book rather in front of a computer screen not only because of this reason, but it would definitely fit in. chilling and nicely done! That is one major flaw in the computer. People can pretend to be whoever they decide to be. The big flaw is you do not know if it is a teenage girl or boy or a 50 year old serial killer or what. Sorry for scaring you, but I felt it needed to be brough home so to say. I appreciate it very much. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

This is a great poem, but

This is a great poem, but whatta FRIGHTENING thought...I have a small niece and two step-daughters who are both young adults, and the mere thought of anything happening to them like this, well it just makes the hair on the back of my neck and arms stand up...you have a unique gift for being able to reach inside of people and grab ahold of their guts!! Of course, I mean this figuratively speaking, but after reading your poem 'Midnight Snack', I'm not so sure...!!! Kidding!! LOL... Keep up the interesting writing... :) "If I had a prayer, it would be this: God, spare me from the desire for love, approval, or appreciation..." - Byron Katie

If you really think about it, it is scary. You don't really know if that person is who he/she says they are or even if the picture they post is real. Sweet little Jenny there may be a 300 pound serial killer that delights in torture. As for the guts...*sharpening knife* would I do that? buahahahahaha. Perhaps not the best thing to say after replying like I did. *shudder* scared myself. I appreciate your comments. I am very careful with my grand kids and the computer. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water."

Thanks Double D.

I appreciate it. Yeah, I know what you mean about hitching. From 13 to 17 I did a lot of hitching all over the south. I got in a few close calls, but nothing really serious. It could have been bad. I got mugged in New Orleans and woke up with eyes matted shut with blood inside a dumpster, but survived that. (*LOL* or else wouldn't be here now) It is very dangerous to blindly think everyone is Mr. or Mrs. Nice Person on the computer. Seems like you have a good head on your shoulders with the taxes thing. Glad to see you back. I have missed you. Respectfully, Rett: "Next time you think you're perfect, walk on water." If government is the answer, it's a stupid question!
